I also was scammed by Jamster
I noticed a $27 jump in my Verizon bill one month, and the next month. I did not investigate right away because I was distracted with health issues during the 2-month period. Now, today, on a visit to my Verizon branch I was told that I had a monthly subscription to something called "Jamster" !!! NEVER HEARD OF JAMSTER !!!. NEVER SUBSCRIBED or SIGNED UP FOR A JAMSTER !!!! Verizon declined to credit me for a refund, however, Verizon did block my mobile from all incoming text/data from everyone, including JAMSTER; therefore no further bogus charges on my Verizon bill for this SCAM. I have been unable to contact JAMSTER for a refund; listed JAMSTER contacts are also bogus! Surprise !?! I would like to join any class action suit against the scamsters JAMSTERS.

Jamster Issue
My stepdaughter had a charge of £3.75 appear on her bill, after a bit of detective work it turns out to be a jamster issue. I went on to their website and via a chat box (if we phone direct we have to pay a premium rate here in the UK) asked the operator what it was for and as usual it was for premium texts that my daughter knew nothing about, i asked for a refund pointing out that my stepdaughter was 15 years old and they agreed a full refund and to block the number from their system. the cheque has turned up and no more mysterious charges have appeared.... yet.

Jamster CROOKS
My 75 year old mother accidently somehow downloaded jamster on her tablet. With the swipe of a finger these dirty SOB's can charge you 10.00 a month, thankfully I watch her bill for her and noticed it right away. Upon calling Bell they did let me know how to STOP it hopefully. They also reimbursed the 2 charges of 10.00 after letting them know that I was going to discontinue the service with them no matter what it cost to get out of the contract, so koodos to them but with saying that I think any reputible company should block these SOB's from even putting charges through if they want our money so bad make us enter a credit card # and I doubt that will ever happen. So again thank you Bell but you should really give some thought to even charging for it in the first place. It is a shame that so many people are being ripped off by this so called company. Protect your parents and children from these crooks go over their bills carefully. Thanks for reading.

Jamster the Scamster
I think I know how I first encountered SCAMSTER. It was probably through an ad in an app I downloaded from Android Market which I would have ACCIDENTALLY pressed on. In NO WAY did I submitt any info to them as I have no interest in ringtones and the like. I started receiving text mssgs from them and ignored them for awhile. Finally got sick of receiving them and took them up on their "ADVICE" to text the word "STOP" to some 75555 # in order to quit receiving the texts. After trying to send said text several times (only to receive a mssg each time stating mssg could not be sent would I like to try again) I left it. BAM!!!! Immediately was charged $4.32 for what I don't know. Then for every month for 6 months was charged $10.00 AGAIN for what I don't know. I NEVER gave my number to these idiots and NEVER agreed to any crap from them and guess what? I don't receive texts anymore from them. I called my service provider (Virgin) and they did credit me for 3 months of the charges but said there is nothing they can do otherwise. They can't even block them. To be safe I have changed my cell # which was of no charge to me only a pain in the backside. We really need to lobby parliament to have the laws changed. This is disgusting that a company can do this to people and be able to get away with it because it is all within the confines of the law. CRTC you effin SUCK!!!!!

Getting billed with out even being scamed!
My story starts Back in December of 2011 when our bill went up $20 and my mother could not figure out why and was blaming me for it.(We have 2 phones and share the Bill.) And for the last 3 months we had been arguing over this. Well I finally had enough of this and went up and talked with our Verizon sales person about this and he pulled up our bill and found that this jamester crap on there that nobody even ordered. He said somebody must have ordered it by mustake and told me that I had to text them again and text them the word stop or they would keep charging us for this. I said well if thats the case why is it not on this last month's bill? So what I wanted to know is why was it put there for 3 months and then its not on there when we did not do either. He said that I would have to talk with billing and gave me your web site. So I called them and had it out and told them the story. Well the lady with Verizon was a real sweet heart and knocked the money off of our bill that we had been charged for this. (I LOVE VERIZON!) They were great about it. But it still pisses me off that these people are doing this. What about the people that don't have a clue and will still pay this crap and not bitch about it? How much money are they pocketing for nothing? Some body needs to do something about this. I wish I was an attorney and knew the channels to go after these type of people and have them castrated. I hate having a kill the greedy and eat the rich type of attitude. The only thing I can advise any body is make sure that your premium texting and internet is blocked if you don't use it. If there is anybody who needs me to testify please let me know. Thanks for listening.

Jamster gets another victim
I got a new smartphone two months ago from bell. On my first bill I had a 10 dollar charge for something called jambster and multiple other charges for texts and other things i never used or ordered. Not knowing what it all was I phoned bell. They were all sunshine on the phone apologizing and said they would block jambster from my bill, as well as credit me for the other errors on my bill. Well i just got my bill for this moth and lo and behold jambster 10 dollars plus the 64 dollars they supposedly credited me showed up as previous balance.

Absolutely unethical business!! F*@K B#$%#
I use my tablet on the Bell Mobility network in Canada and one fine day I had received a SMS promoting free ringtones/games etc. Keep in mind I already had SMS incoming/outgoing blocked off by my carrier, however Bell does not block Jamster SMSes from coming through! (A fact I didn't come to know until I received my bill). I believe I had only opened the SMS link to see what it was, at no point did I enter my phone number, credit card, accept to any terms whatsoever. However, just opening the message got me signed up for their recurring $10/monthly charge. Mind you this isn't a one time charge, they automatically subscribe you to their monthly plan. Naturally after losing my cool and calling Bell to complain, they were nice enough to credit me the money. Although, they left it upto me to contact Jamster and cancel my subscription. Bell are not legally allowed to block scamming business like Jamster, so it's best to always be on your guard.

I noticed a 9.99 dollar charge on my bill. Tmobile asked me if I remember some advertisement for ringtones. They told me if you just delete the massage you automatically sign up for a subscription. This is so common the tmobile agent explained to me exactly how it happened while fixing it. Then She offered to sell me a service that would prevent future scams like this because what jamster does is legal and other companies can do the same. tmobile can't tell me how they got my number.

Verizon refused to do anything!!! but gave me a phone # to contact Jamster.. Verizon tried to explain they only let 3rd parties bill to them that go the mile and take precations...i.e. a person has to confirm they are requesting Jamster service for a fee..but Jamster of course can't tell you who that might have been..it was the same someone who requested their service to begin with..it's a lot of crap!!! I got stuck with 2 months of charges and data fees both months..total of $18 each month before I noticed it on my bill..The phone carriers are just as guilty in this scam as the scammers at Jamster.

My offspring called Jamster and cancelled the service and supposedly a check is on it's way... well, i haven't seen the check many weeks later and then... we are still getting charged for this "monthly service" at 9.99. You Owe Me More Than Money
It is embarrassing for me to tell my story after reading all the others. Most people notice something is wrong after receiving a 5 or 10 dollar increase in their monthly bill. I did what most people do after 40 years of marriage, I blamed my wife. It’s her phone, she must be racking up all these charges. Last May and June were 15 dollars over, the next 3 months were 30 dollars over, the last 2 months were 50 and 60 dollars over the agreed contract with Bell. Finally, we phoned Bell and they agreed to remove about 100 dollars from our bill by giving us some credit. It doesn’t cover it all but it is something. They said they can only go back one month but after a little bitching they agreed to remove a bit more. If they can do that then why cant they return the 200 plus I have already paid them. They give us a phone number for Jamster and we called them to explain, they are very nice on the phone but they can afford to hire nice people to answer all the complaints I am sure they are receiving. What a bunch of Jack Asses. Anyways, aren’t our governments suppose to make laws to protect us from Bull Shit like this. These guys should be in jail for this. What does it take to get people like this shut down. I can only imagine how many millions of dollars these con artists have already ripped out of our pockets. Bell and all the other providers should have to answer for collecting money for these guys. Bell and Jamster need to add a button to their phone system, press # to have a very nice well mannered person tell you that you have been f###ed. For over six months I have been ragging on my wife for over using her cell phone. Thanks a lot Jamster and Bell. You owe me more than money, how about an apology. Enough said.

Searching for Song Lyrics lead to $22.92AUD phone charges
Similar to the pervious post, I was quite inocently searching for songs, and came across Jamster's website. I downloaded the song for 'free', after entering my mobile phone number. I recevied (not made) several text messages from Jamster and ignored them. I have just reviewed my latest mobile phone bill, and it includes 6 'Premium' Txt messages, accumulating to $22.92. Why should I be charged for their calls, when I didn't request any information - out right scam. Governing bodies in the Telco space need to prevent such companies charging innocent customers. They need to make customers aware of the charges up-front. I'm appauled to see Jamster has been around since 2005 and is still making substantial income from this 'scam'. They'll continue to 'rip people off' until some one stops them - that's why I'm taking time out to write this post.

Jamster Full Refund
I chatted with jamster today in regards to the 110 dollars we have been charged in the last 10 months for a subscription we never signed up for. At first the customer service rep said they could only refund 6 months, so I said that would be fine, but I wanted a phone number of someone I could talk to about the other 3 months, and he came back and said his supervisor had authorized the full refund. I also asked how they had started the subscription, and they said it was done via the internet on one of our phones. Our numbers are now blocked from further subscriptions and our refund is on the way.

Verizon Took Care of It
Me too. My wife complained about mystery TXTs, then mystery charges showed up on the bill. I questioned her closely and we're convinced that she never requested any service from Jamster. The Verizon rep. patiently explained that she must have entered her cell number on some website, and I kept patiently explaining that that was not so. When he was convinced, he processed a credit and led me through sending Jamster a TXT which supposedly shuts their "service" off. I'll be watching next month's bill closely to make certain. I'm pleased that getting my money refunded didn't require me to give the scammers my address, which they could then sell along with a verified working phone number. The carriers may indeed be obliged by law to pass third-party charges through *when authorized*, but I'm not convinced they are required to make it opt-out. I'd just like to point out that the carriers are being harmed, too, since they must be getting thousands of calls about this fraud and it costs them a lot to deal with them. They should sue Jamster and others like them, right down to their socks. Two or three suits from carriers would be enough to ruin Jamster just *preparing* for trial, I should think.

Be Diligent in Checking Your Bill
I recently traveled out of the country and added an international plan to my ATT phone service. When I came back I started deciphering my 15 page cell phone bill. That was when I noticed the we were being charged $9.99 on my husbands phone for Jamster. (My son's phone was being charged $9.99 for something called MoTime.) We called ATT and they told us we were being charged for Jamster for the past 6 months! We have NO IDEA how that could have been put on his phone (back in July!). Who knows how long it would have taken to figure it was on the bill if I hadn't have double checked my bill after my trip. After a long discussion about how we could possibly have left our phone laying around and had someone use it. . . our kids using it. . . or maybe we just forgot we ordered it. . . Anyway after a long discussion ATT offered to refund 2 months. They said they couldn't do more than 60 days back. We were going to let this be a learning experience until I read on this website that someone had called Jamster directly to get a refund. We called them and they will be receiving 3 of the 4 months of service fees. Now we are only out $9.99. They are probably making a fortune from all the people that don't even know they are being charged! Unfortunately my anger was directed at ATT for allowing this charge to be 'laundered' through their billing. Jamster is a business with HORRIBLE business practices and my next stop is to go to the FTC complaint process. However, I feel that the phone companies should not allow this to continue. I would LOVE to be part of a class action suit.

Scams from Jamster on Granddaughter's Phone
There were over $100 worth of charges on my t_mobile bill and it was from "downloads" or "aps" from Jamster. We called customer care and the lady tried to insist that these aps were directly from this phone number. We are aware that all a person has to do to mess with someone id give THEIR phone number when these sites ask for a number! These apps were "downloaded" every 2 or 3 minutes all night long! I was home and up all night as I work third shift and that is my schedule and I had those nights off! She was asleep during these times, so I know it was someone else toying with us out of spite. They agreed to remove charges. We looked through entire phone at everything before even telling child anything so she had no time to remove anything! There was NOTHING on her phone at all, not even a game of any kind because I had removed all items from the phone before it was given to her. She only uses tones that are settings already on the phone, just like my husband and I do. We NEVER download an ap or music or ring tones, like other poster said that is "silliness" and we don't have interest in that junk. We just need a phone we can communicate on...period. I for one am getting tired of dealing with all the new found ways folks seem to find to rip other people off! We have now blocked her phone from any chance of any downloads of aps! I also get tired of telemarketers bothering us on cell phones, then they want to charge you every month for blocks???? They ought to just have those in place for customers anyway! GRRRRRRR!

Push Your Provider for a Credit
First noticed the $10 charge on my bill so I call Bell and asked for an explanation. The rep told me that I must have purchased ring tones. I told him that was not the case. He gave me the number for jamster and told me that I would have to call them to cancel my account and ask for a refund. When I called Jamster the lady on the phone told me that I had purchased "credits" I asked her what I had use the credits for,she said "nothing" I asked her to cancel and send me a refund. About three weeks later I received a cheque for the ten dollars. Next month I had another $10 charge on my bill from Jamster. I called Bell and expressed my displeasure. I said that jamster was doing was unethical if not illegal and that I was surprised that Bell Canada would partner with such a firm. The rep said that they in no way are in partnership with Jamster. I told him that when you collect money for someone the partnership is at least implied. He said that he would issue me a credit for the $10 but that I would have call Jamster and cancel again. I said that I was unwilling to do that again and that he would have to take care of it. After along time on hold he came back and told me that had blocked jamster form my phone. Push your service providers to look after this. Once the cost and hassle begin to out weigh the revenue they receive from Jamster they will find the "moral" fortitude to dump these Jerksters. Keep checking your bill and tell your friends.

Jamster scammed me, Verizon was not much help
My wife's line was scammed for the Jamster Mobile Value Pack. I noticed it after two months. Verizon said they could not refund 3rd party charges, but blocked premium messaging and mobile web for us. After reading this Jamster Scam site (THANK YOU! :} ) I got the courage to call Jamster. They immediately agreed to refund the charges, no questions asked. The crazy thing is they have to send my a paper refund check. We will see how THAT pans out. Whatever you do, don't buckle to these scammers. And I am going to file a complaint with the FTC https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and the Ohio Attorney General. I also think the poster who mentioned he works with ATT and sees it all the time, and saying it is due to regulations gone awry, is correct. This is total BS what Jamster, and others I am sure, are doing.

I asked him to let me know what exactly was it I supposedly bought. He said he didn't know but maybe ring tones no no no I said. But it's funny now that I know what the deal is . Because he said o maybe someone made a mistake and hit the wrong #. but how could it be charged to me I said, he's reply was we can put a block so that there are no more charges on your bill with out a pass code. I told him I was not Payin for it. Come to find out I've been paying for the past 10 months. So he gave me $99.90 credit on my next bill. But after reading this I need to go back and make sure there weren't any other charges made. Happy Ending
I'm a T-Mobile customer and noticed this extra $9.99 charge from Jamster on my bill. After investigating and seeing all the problems people were having, I called T-Mobile to politely ask to have the charge refunded. The agent explained that Jamster sends a text message that has lots of numbers and slashes in it, and at the bottom, says that if you delete the message, you are agreeing to be charged $9.99 a month for their service. Of course, most people think the text message is spam and do just that, delete it. T-Mobile did not push back. (Luck of the draw as to which agent I spoke to?, long time customer?, I don't know.) They were very accommodating and agreed to refund the charges and put a free Family Allowances block on my account, which would cover all lines in our family plan, to not only stop future Jamster charges and effectively cancel the subscription, but would also prevent any other company from doing the same thing. So, I'm not happy that T-Mobile allows this to happen in the first place, and even more upset that Jamster manages to get away with this egregious fraud, but at least T-Mobile helped get it straightened out and I didn't have to deal with Jamster directly and wait 20 days to get a refund by check from them. (I won't see the refund from T-Mobile until my next bill, also 20 or more days away, but it will be a direct credit to my account.) One call to T-Mobile took care of it.

So i went on vacation for a few days, and i used my phone which is an AT&T Go phone, and i had a 2 dollar a day plan, that means if i used my phone it would only charge 2 bucks for the day i used it. So i sent a text message that afternoon and instead of 2 bucks it should have charged me it was 10 bucks, and that was about a month ago. I originally thought they charged me because i was out of the state but that was not the case. i just looked at my account transactions and it said i used Jamster (which i did not, i used Myxer which apparently is a scam too), anyway i called AT&T today and they said that i used Jamster which i didn't but i told them what happened and they refunded my money that i lost over the past couple of months, but they only refunded my money from this month and i'm still working on them getting my money back from last month. so in the end DON'T USE MYXER OR JAMSTER IT'S ALL A SCAM FOR YOUR MONEY!!.

How to get your money back from Jamster - a sleazy underhanded ripoff
So my 12 year old daughter apparently signed up for a "free" service by answering an ad on a text get some free ring tones or something like that. Low and behold on the next bill I was charged $9.99 and apparently would have been billed $9.99 thereafter if I had not noticed. We all know this is complete bull and just wrong. In this case, there is something that can be done.As I said, my daughter is 12 years old - it is contractual law that a minor cannot enter into a binding contract therefore there is no contract - so call Jamster @ 866-856-5267 and tell them to them send you a check for all the money you have given them. They will likely agree to send you a check because they know the law. If they do not call the attorney generals office in your state and see what can be done. Its illegal!

Big Time Scam
I was trying to download a ringtone for my new Android phone. I clicked on "free ringtone" and immediately got a message saying "thank you for your payment of $9.99" WTF? What payment of $9.99? I immediately called the toll free number provided for "service" where I was told that I had accepted the terms of service agreeing to the $9.99 charge. I did no such thing. I never saw the terms of service or any information about a $9.99 charge. The service rep on the phone, who spoke broken English argued with me that I had agreed to the charge, and even though I immediately(within 2 minutes) canceled the service that I would still be charged. He finally agreed to refund the charge but only by mailing a check. I asked why it literally took 2 seconds to charge me electronically but would take them 20 BUSINESS DAYS to send me a paper check. I was told it was their policy. I asked to speak to a supervisor and he told me that was fine but she would tell me the same thing. She did, in the same broken English, obviously reading from a script. What a joke! What a ripoff! Do not subscribe to Jamster or even look at the app or you will be charged!

Well This Is Just To Help You
This isn't a story but, if people read it, this can let you get your own free ringtones by clipping the part you want. If you have RealPlayer, download a song off of YouTube Then use REalPlayer Converter to convert it to an mp3 and open the song in audacity. Using Audacity, cut the part you want to another project or delete the rest of the song. Then export as an mp3. You will need the lame codec. Then, if you have Verizon, email the ringtone to your phone at yournumberwithareacode@vzwpix.com. so for instance: 9219997878@vzwpix.com I just made that area code and number up.

Another $9.99 Scam Job from Jamster
I am currently on the phone with t-mobile, questioning why this $9.99 charge is on my phone. The t-mobile customer service rep. I am speaking with says that unfortunately I was already credited last month and they can give me the number of jamster to see why I am getting third party charges every month and that she can place a block from Jamster. I said why didn't they block it last month. I then said I will just cancel my services with t-mobile if I can't get this resolved and asked to speak to a supervisor. Customer service supervisor Jeff V. #81374 got on the phone I explained how I quickly did some research and found this web-site and apparently several people have been experiencing this same problem and that I was currently writing about my situation and how it is being resolved. He was very courteous and promptly credited my account. Placed a block and a message that if my account ever shows this in the future to automatically credit my account. Thanks Jeff that's the customer service I like to see.

Phone Has Mind of It's Own
Every time I touch my new Nokia C6 the phone automatically connects to Jamster. I deleted the application and put an internet block on the phone. Two months later I had a $10.00 charge on my Bell Mobility monthly statement. Bell would not remove the charge because it was a charge from a third party but they did give me a phone number for Jamster. After much persistent telephoning(Jamster seems to have some kind of system where the customer service person is unable to hear you speaking?) I finally spoke with a live person at Jamster. Without too much arguing, she said Jamster would send me a refund in the next 7 - 10 days. I hope this is true. No where did I get a warning Jamster was going to charge me for anything. I never had to enter my phone number for anything. I don't know how this company gets away with this. I don't know why Bell Mobility allows this. One sure has to be vigilant about extra cell phone charges.

Accidentally signed up for them emailed them back got a were sorry this is a two step process. Somehow my husband encounter the same thing trying to DL a new ring tone for himself, but his phone isn't compatible with there ring tones. Just got my bill $30 on each phone for packet data, and $10 for a service charge. $80 no ring tone cause they didn't even have it, multiple emails to cancel. Then Bell actually charged it to my bill. $10 a month for a ring tone really, they shouldn't charge you until you actually get a ring tone. Found the ring tone on a totally free site but too late now. Jamster and MoTime are crap and useless, and they love to take your money and apparently they are in cahoots with Bell. Jamba - Scammer Scammed
I lived in Holland back in the day when I foolishly order a ring tone after seeing a commercial from Jamba (Jamster). This was in September 2006.
I downloaded a ringtone for 1.50 euro and received it. I thought everything was ok until I received another text message a week later saying that I still had credit to order more ringtones and that I would get a text message every week. The text message had an email address and a website in case I needed customer service.
So a week later I got another text message saying the same thing. I also noticed my bill showed charges of 4.50 per text. So I got worried and I went to the website to check it out. It said I could log on with my phone number to use the credit I still had outstanding. So I tried to logon but it said that my number was not recognised. So no way to use my outstanding credit at Jamba.
In the mean time the text messages kept coming in and the charges where added to my bill. So I went back to the website to try and stop the text messages. I texted all kinds of words like STOP, CANCEL, etc to this number but I could not get rid of the subscription. The text messages kept coming in.
Now months later I was still getting messages and was getting really worried as I now paid 4.50 a week for something I couldn’t use or stop. I called the number listed on their website only to find out the number was not connected. So now it was game on. I emailed the email address found in the text messages and told them to immediately stop their scam. I also emailed the ombudsman in The Netherlands and more institutions related to these kinds of scams.
The text messages now didn’t come once a week but every 3 days charged 4.50 per message. This was getting out of hand. I did get a reply that they were looking into the matter. I replied that this nonsense was to stop or I would sue them and tell every customer body and TV show about their scam business (which I did anyway). I demanded a refund of the charges, which were by now 90 Euros.
They asked for my phone number and bank account and I could expect the 90 Euros back in 3 weeks. The text messages stopped, the 90 Euros were deposited and I never heard from them again.
They never asked me any questions or asked me to proof my case. They just paid me back the money, no questions asked. That to me proved that they knew they were scamming people. They just didn’t want me to go public with the whole case.
Anyway, happy ending to something that could have cost me loads of money.

Jammer Sucks - TMobile Rocks
I noticed a $9.99 charge on this month's bill. And since I don't regularly scour my bills for errors, I went back and looked at the past 3 month's bills. I also had the $9.99 charge on last month's bill. Thankfully, it seems as if it only occurred twice. I called TMobile and with no hassle, and very friendly, agreed to remove both charges. The Customer Service Rep said the credit probably wouldn't show up until the next bill cycle, which is fine. I thought I was going to have to argue etc etc, but they were very nice and took them off right away. She also placed a block so I can't get charged from Jamster again. Although I'm sure it will happen again, but with a different scammer company. Thanks TMobile!

Jamster costs me money and I have no idea how it got on my bill…
I got news that $9.99 was charged to my bill twice in March from Jamster. I checked my records, and saw that on those days I got a text from an INTERNAL number from T-Mobile. Nowhere did I voluntarily sign on for a subscription for Jamster, since I don't use ringtones or download music to my phone, but I still got charged. I've already reported them to the FTC and I will be calling T-Mobile to ask them to cease any future charges from Jamster. I wrote off the old ones as a lesson learned. If they tell me they can't stop it, I'll be getting another phone service immediately. I'm wondering if Jamster is piggy-backing on some android apps…

My Cell Number Entered by Someone Else for a Jamster Subscription
My T-Mobile bill today showed an extra 9.99 charge for premium services, something from Fox Mobile/Jamster: 75555_Jamster_8668565267. I've never heard of either, and I haven't received any ringtone or subscription texts. I called customer service and they said that I either texted this fine Jamster service for a free ringtone (which signs you up for a monthly subscription) or my phone number was entered into their website. I told them I definitely didn't text anything to Jamster, and I also did not enter my phone number on any Jamster website. I asked if someone accidentally or intentionally enters my number, if there is any validation that the account holder has authorized it. He said there is no validation and that is an FCC requirement, that they have to honor charges from 3rd party companies sans validation. But also they can cancel charges easily if customers call about them. I was stunned by the stupidity of this arrangement and somewhat flipped my top on the rep. I asked what T-Mobile was doing to protect their customers from this scam/unauthorized billing (aside from canceling charges after the fact). Are they lobbying the FCC or congress or doing *anything* to make sure there is some validation on these charges? Pretty much they aren't. I assume that the only way this will change is if we as customers contact congress and the FCC ourselves and apply pressure to get this sh** stopped.

For Shame!
I was charged for something that I did not subscribe to and when I called the toll free number to let them know this, they gave me an address in the Netherlands to write my complaint. I looked carefully at all my emails and text messages and found that I had been subscribed and I do not know how this happened at all. If I wanted to stop it, I had to press STOP but this is a scam. That is why they need to have their address in the Netherlands where it is difficult to track down these companies. But my service provider should really know BETTER. This is a $44.00 charge on my account which is a lot of money to me. I don't know how these people can sleep at night; do they not have a soul? a conscience? There should be a law against such scams.

3rd Party Charges
As a disclaimer, I work in customer service for AT&T. Therefor, anything I say is not represented by the company in any legal way. However, every day I have to deal with this. We now have policies in place to deal with this issue, but it is still a large headache. We have a system in place to refund your money, get the money back from the "3rd party content providers", and block future "purchases" on your phone bill. Many people who call in haven't even entered their number in any place, and I've even seen people submit "STOP" just to get signed up on another subscription. The problem is that none of the cell companies have any choice in this matter. This is forced on us (and not just AT&T, Verizon recently tried to sue a provider like this) by governmental regulations claiming to be needed for "equal access to the telephone network". On the bill is a five-digit "short code", anyone with $15,000-$20,000 can buy one off the net and get on the billing system. This was supposed to be for legitimate companies to pass through each others switching systems seamlessly, and until the Internet age it worked just like this. Now we have spammers buying codes, sending out mass texts, not removing anyone even when they do "STOP", and then disappearing before anyone can do anything. Jamster, WHERE, MTone, and others are my biggest headache at my job. It costs us money, our customers money and time... Lobby Congress, because we're just obeying the law.

I just realized I was charged for three months worth of Jamster service at $9.99/mo. I am a 30 year old woman with no need for stylized ringtones- I just select the default tones that come with my phone. I cancelled within 10 minutes by text "stop" to Jamster, as was required. A return text came back stating they didn't recognize that song. I tried 3 times with the same results. this month I have noticed the $10 charge on my bill. I have just emailed them to tell them to stop the charges and unsubscribe me - we will see if that happens. $9.99 "Free" Ringtone
I clicked on an ad (never again) for a "free ringtone." Several options were offered, the first of which was for "your ringtone" followed by several subscription offers at a price. It also give me a cancellation option to text cancel to 75555, which I did immediately, resulting in another text message telling me that I would lose my credits and would still be charged. I called the 866 number and was able to get it cancelled with promises that a check would be sent within 20 days. I'm not holding my breath. I intended to file complaints with the BBB and the AG's office. This is a huge scam and I cannot believe that AT&T let's them get away with it. Hi Frustrated,
I'm sorry, I got behind on posting people's story submissions. Understand that this is not a business for me (notice there aren't any ads on this web site). When I got scammed by Jamster and stonewalled by my cell phone company, I put up this web site to tell people my story so that if it happened to anyone else they wouldn't be alone and would understand what was happening to them (at the time, there wasn't a single mention of the deceitful and fraudulent practice on the entire internet—believe me, I scoured it). Then I asked people to submit their stories if it happened to them. The response was phenomenal!
So as much as I would like to post every story as I receive it (like I used to), I must give priority to my own survival, i.e., work and family. I'm sure you understand.
Now I'm working backwards, chronologically, getting caught up on posting stories. I don't know which story is yours; I can't tell from this post of yours. If you write me now and identify it, I will post it immediately, otherwise, please be patient, it is coming.
And please work on your temper—remember who the good guys are—and besides, we should love our enemies too, like Jesus said. That's the only true test of character; even pagans love those who are nice to them.

Jamster TV Scam
I was sitting in my house with my girlfriend and a few friends on a Friday night watching tv. A few minutes later a commercial on tv said "text he/she and a name to 75-555 and get a Jersey Shore name made up for free". I hate the tv show and thought it was humorous at best. When I left the room and came back, one of my friends took my cell phone and texted my name and my girlfriends name to it and showed me the results. I told him he was dumb and that tv crap is probably a scam. He responded, for your sake I hope not cause I did it from your phone. After that I immediately called this Jamster company (within 5 mins) and told them the charge was bogus and to refund my account because I did not sign up for this service. The lady (from a foreign country) told me there was absolutely "no refunds" since the account was already used twice. I explained to her that I personally did not do this and that it was a mistake. She told me too bad so sad I don't give refunds. I then told her that if that's the case then I would like the service stopped and a credit for $9.99 issued back to my account. She proceeded to tell me since I used the service twice they are not authorized to give refunds. I asked for a manager or supervisor and they transferred me to a woman who said the exact same thing in the same order like she was reading from a "no refund script". I, being the hard-headed SOB I am told her this call would not end till they credited $9.99 back onto my Verizon account. Which after 45 mins of arguing with a woman who barely spoke English to no surprise received no refund. I am currently still trying to get this credited back to my account as we speak. To sum everything up, I should have smarter friends, but I never signed anything or gave any information about myself to warrant them signing me up for this service. I own my own business and make plenty of money, the $9.99 isn't the problem, it's the fact that a monthly service requires a contract that must be authorized by the individual signing up for it. How is this even legal?? Either way, I have the money and guts to take a company down in court for ten bucks. Trust me, If I want my refund, I will get it. Thanks.

A friend of mine told me to check my AT&T cell phone bill. I am usually good about this, but this one blindsided me. The fee appears under a "Monthly Subscriptions" section of your AT&T detailed bill. The subscription name is "jamster . com" and the content provider is "Fox Mobile US". When I called AT&T, the woman that I spoke with said AT&T is unaware of how that got billed (which I find very strange, since its their bill). But she did credit them all (2 months worth, $19.98). She also set up a "mobile purchase blocker" that is supposed to prevent any purchases of this kind in the future. Special thanks to Mary Kay for sharing this with me!

Now I have to fight it out with the Jamster place to get my money back. What a JOKE and a scam. I am contacting my attorney general to file a formal complaint against both Jamster and Verizon.

Last month I was on at&t media net home page. My finger hit the trackball on my blackberry too hard and I ended up on jamster.com I never agreed to any plan and I never tried to download anything. By the time I noticed I was being charged I'd been billed for 2 months. How can they do this?

Just looked at our ATT bill and found a 19.99 charge for a subscription to Jamster on my husband's line. Trust me, he has just learned to text - he is not one to subscribe to anything; not to mention he is tighter than a new shoe and would NEVER spend $20 on a ringtone subscription. Calling ATT right now; thanks for your post.

Jamster Jersey Shore Nickname Generator
They advertised Jersey Shore Nicknames on MTV. My nickname is "Biceps". Funny! The price was a few $'s for this, but I knew that. I sent immediately "stop" to Jamster and they confirmed the cancelation. Was pretty easy. I'll keep you posted if they try to scam me, but so far so good...

Afterward, I called at&t and they said the subscription was active, so by calling to cancel the subscription actually activated one! This company is a huge scam.

Jamster Scam
Yes, Jamster is a fraud. I received a message from Jamster on my phone saying "6 Free Ringtones" and a OK button. Do not click on this OK because if you do you will receive a bill for $9.99 from your cell carrier that will not be removed. You don't get a chance to evaluate this offer, you don't have to enter a text code, or even go onto their site and register to approve this charge, or download a free ringtone, the charge is made immediately after you select OK for the 6 FREE Ringtones, regardless of whether or not you even get a ringtone. File a complaint with the BBB, the FCC, the PUC, and the Attorney General of your state and let's put JAMSTER in the DUMPSTER.

I started receiving text messages from www.jamster.com and ignored them. A friend was with me when I received the last one and he said to check my phone bill. Sure enough, I had been charged for $9.99 for the previous three months. I called AT&T and they said jamster will send a text message to you and if you don't cancel with them, they will charge you. I never subscribed to them, plus I'm on the National Do Not Call list. Jamster is now owned by Fox Mobile Distribution, LLC based out of Beverly Hills, CA. I filed a complaint with the BBB, The Federal Trade Commission, The CA State Attorney General, and the Los Angeles District Attorney's office. If you have been swindled by Jamster, file complaints with these authorities. When they get enough complaints, they will take action against Jamster and Fox Mobile Distribution, LLC.

To anyone involved in the Mobile Content Industry!
Hi Consumers, the following text is the full truth of what happened within the Mobile Content industry and is written by one of the most experienced members in the context of, to the industry at large. Not to consumers. It will tell you have deeply this company (and many other smaller) ones, became involved in what must surely be the biggest consumer rip off in the UK history, bigger by far than the book and music scam from the 80's! This is a story I'm surprised has never been told within the industry. This is strictly my opinion only. I'm often wrong, but I do get some things right. Let's get started. In the 80s someone designed bricks with plastic ends, and we found if we spoke into them we could connect with other people, via what some people would describe as white noise. As these devices started to develop, they had basic ringtones available, and people played around with them to make theirs unique. They even had a quirky game on them, Snake (remember that?). People loved Snake. Every one played it. It was like a national addiction. I can't say I didn't fall for it! Anyhow, companies, generally music based and in the PRS industry, realised they could sell additional ringtones to these phones - that had become a lot less like bricks, and had become available within a price range for the average everyday consumer. People liked the idea of having a unique ringtone. After all, how often did you get annoyed/confused constantly hearing the same Nokia tune everywhere you went? Jackpot! The ringtone boom began... Some companies who shouldn't have missed out realised that a whole lot of people were getting rich around them while they continued to munch on their little piece of cheese. So we looked for the next big thing. Hence mobile phone gaming became a reality. Everyone thought this was the new ringtone. Earlier adopters enjoyed the games, and paid good money for them. So the market grew, and people predicted the mobile phone game business would be worth 11 billion by 2007. Many companies jumped on the bandwagon, in which the network operators pretty much controlled, except for a few big boys outside such operations. One of these big boys was so interesting, a corporate company bought them out, and the company promised lots more revenue, lots more money and lots more growth. All of this happened so fast. Ip from mass media was used, often horrendously, and very much extensively, and people found good IP could generate a nice little sale. More than the ringtone ever could charge. So the market grew and I guess the inevitable happened. An original IP from the mobile content market crossed over into the mainstream consumer market. It was a joyous time. Everyone patted each other on the back and congratulated one other. This certain company (and many after) realised that they could indirectly manipulate the customer into entering into multiple financial agreements via their mobile phone bill via this mass cross over. This little “annoying” character that was created, I mean, he had con-genital glaucoma, and rubber bands for lips, and don't forget it had that extension that should have been saved for the adult market only. Still the mass market loved it, it was a phenomenon! If its ringtone went off in the supermarket cue, you'd see old ladies rolling around with laughter – everyone would be laughing. It was so cool to have this funny tune. This ringtone became a music sensation, then came the t-shirt, a hat, a video game. So many ways did this hilarious creature enter our lives. This creature was so funny and unique and well drawn that it gave hope to every child sitting in their bedroom of becoming a video game developer. The plaudits, the plaudits! Then all of a sudden the phone bills began to arrive on people's doorsteps. Bills that shocked so many who had downloaded the annoying ringtone. The bill was so large and so unexpected you would have thought certain companies would have been suspended from trading after their unfair and unannounced charges. Everyone knew somebody who had a bill over £200 - £400 pounds. No longer was the word con-gential glaucoma interesting or funny. No longer did that little thing at the end of it help us drift off peacefully to sleep at night. The consumer was totally and utterly outraged. Think about this, the only original IP to ever come from the mobile content market and cross over to the mainstream. The one product from our virgin market. This amazingly illustrated peace of genius had screwed the market so hard that never again, well not since then, has original IP from our market every crossed over to the mainstream market. Uproar was heard. If that ringtone went off, vigilant groups went on patrol. If that character even so much as appeared on your shirt partisans came down from the mountains to deal with the issue harshly. The government, well, regulation and restrictions, complications, solutions – all were put in place to ensure that the innocent consumers would never get screwed this hard ever again. So time passed, the consumer began to forget, given that these big companies who at the time of this, built systems accidentally. Oops, that's a typo, I really meant intentionally. They intentionally built systems that were especially dedicated to the essential function of draining your bank account without prior warning, and naturally people noticed, and people very much cared. Let's face it, it wasn't just one or two, the whole population became aware, and so the mobile content market and the many many companies that went out of business, as life often turns, they became the ones who got screwed. Multi billion pound revenue dreams and talk all seemed pointless now. We had screwed the mainstream media with the first product that we ever produced that was able to do so, and people naturally didn't like that. They lost confidence, trust, desire and interest in what we had to offer. Certain business models became almost impossible, except to some companies, actually the ones who one might say caused us to stop dreaming in billions, talking millions and give commissions. It was pathetically sized compared to what we'd enjoyed before that annoying thing came, and destroyed trust in the mass market. It's funny really, we almost did this to ourselves in a way, not all of us, thank God I'm innocent in this, but the guilty became successful and rich fast. The rest of us were left so gob smacked there was not really much to say or do. Then came Mr. Jobs, he's a well known man, I trust him, so does the greengrocer. Apple and iPhone were the ones to bring back confidence to the ruined mobile content market. They cut themselves off from the crap, stonewalled their barricades and offered a solution to companies who could reach out to the consumer again on demand, with a chance to do it very successfully – if luck is on their side. The problem with this is that the consumer being so over priced before on mobile content, decided they wouldn't pay much more than a dollar to get it. Low pricing became enticing to the consumer. Once again the mobile games market had a boomer. Prices will never recover though. The billions we all dreamt off will not show their face here in the way we dreamt of before that annoying tune messed up a market and many a career. One tune. One poorly drawn, pathetic creature, several ringtones and games, that made us all fall. Mainly thanks to the greedy company behind his success. I think this is an untold story to many. I don't think many really understand the depth of how our market is today still effected by what happened before. Things like that take a long time to heal, and so we are left with a market that still has a great deal of potential but not the obvious billions so fast as we saw before. Next time you're sitting around a table and discuss the out payment you receive for the game or content you made, tell this story to another. That's the only way they'll understand why the 59p cost is so pathetic considering you once could have sold that same game for £10. The thing that really bother me is it seems that this history has been sort of deleted, mislaid and surprisingly swept under the carpet and hidden from the many newcomers to this market. Those who have no idea what a crisis this situation was for the consumer and innocent businesses who made a good living through honesty, and a great market that was laid waste after this charade. What shocks me, is that with all the regulations in place, Jamster are still at it, albiet a lower level of money, but they are still conning people. To the whole Mobile Content industry, when another company goes bust, albiet set up with good intentions, just remember that you never stood a chance, Jamester have and continue to take away all consumers confidence!

[No Title]
I too was ripped off by Jamster. My daughter downloaded the program after seeing a "free" ringtone advertisment. Our cellphone carrier is Verizon, but they too would not remove the charges and left it in my hands; meaning it was up to me to figure out how to get the monthly charges and subscription to stop. My daughter has no credit card or account information and was able to subscribe to downloads that were then charged to my cellphone bill monthly. Yet, when you call Verizon, even to ask a question about your bill, they want all sorts of info to prtect your privacy, but what is the point when anyone can subscribe to downlaods on your phone, by simple giving the cellphone number. I am still in the process of trying to figure out how in the world to unsubscribe to this program. Wish me luck!!!!!

Fraud
FILE AN FTC COMPLAIN AT https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ IT'S EASY AND TAKES ABOUT 3 MINUTES. I DID!!!! I got a SPAM text message from ATT - pick up your bill from jamster at (URL). I called ATT as 1. their SPAM messages are supposed to be turned off, and 2. I'd better not have a bill from jamster as I didn't sign up for anything and it's fraudulent. They said jamster adds charges to customers accounts on their own and they'd happily refund my money. I asked why ATT allows anyone to put charges on my account without my authorization and she said they work with their 3rd party vendors to limit the fraud. She then processed my refund and set up my phones to not allow charges like this - something that should have been done by default. I think ATT and other carriers get a percentage of the charges these "3rd party" criminals charge. This is only $9.99 a month to you, but if you multiply that by a million customers they illegally do this to every month that's a lot of money. They are making hundreds of millions of dollars ripping people off.

Switch and Bait
I too fell for this. I went to MP3Bear.com and found a song I really liked and wanted it as a ring tone. It was a Metalica song with a Bluegrass makeover. When I requested it it took me to jamster.com. It was supposedly free. What I got sent to my phone was the Metalica version and not the Bluegrass version. I hate acid rock! I deleted it from my phone immediatley. It wasn't till I received my next phone bill that I realized that it wasn't "free" it was a subscription. I called AT&T to question why my bill had shot up in price. That's when I found out about the charges from Jamster. AT&T's service representative immediately removed the charges with no questions and put a parental block on my phone so that no further charges could occur. Perfectly fine since I don't text either. This has been frustrating to say the least.

Links to file a complaint with BBB and FTC
Ok guys, you can fight back by filing complaints both at the FTC and the Better Business Bureau (BBB). I suggest you guys not accept the partial refund as this seems a standard practice for them. Hey if you steal $100 off from someone and if (1) they may not notice or (2) they may be willing to accept a $30 refund, then they still win. Remember, not only does jamster charge you but that your carrier will charge you for each monthly transaction (likely $2 per month).
Fight back and file these two complaints. It will get their attention.

Jamster Scam UK
I have similar experience. I was listening to a classic music on Last FM and wanted to download the ring tone of the music I was listening to. Since there was a "send ringtones to mobile" placed immediately below the streaming box, I was under the impression that this was possible. When I clicked to download, there was no indication of charge, which was only explained after I replied "OK" to 8888. Only then, I received "You've joined the tone club with 3 tones for jsut £4.50 a week till u send STOP to 8888." I have immediately sent STOP, then another text arrived. "Tone Club closed.Ur losing 3 coupons you've already bought.Reply REJOIN to return to the Tone Club:£4.50 a week." Not explaining the charge before the consumer is charged and taking away the purchased goods/service after the charge has been made must be against the UK Fair Trading Act of 1973. UK residents should report Jamster to the Office of Fair Trading but I would like to lean more about the actions taken in the US.

Jamster Still Scamming
I was looking at some of the other letters saying that they were scamed by jamster one dating back to 2004. Six years later they are still up to the same scam and have increased the price. I got my Aug.2010 bill from AT&T and got a surprise charge from Jamster. I had no idea what it was so I called the phone company and was informed that I had subscribed to this at almost $10.00 a month. This was not a one time charge it was to be taken out each month. I guess untill I figured out that I was getting ripped off. I called the phone company and they said they would take the charge off and block the texting on the phone. It's hard to belive that this company or what ever you call them ( robbers ) can still be doing this after all these years. Can someone please put these people out of business.

Jamster rip-off
I just found that my son had been 'scammed' by this company and contacted them to put a block on the text messages. I also contacted T-Mobile and requested them (as carrier of the signal) to reimburse the amount for 9 text messages received (£1.50 each). This they agreed to do without much fuss and they also said they'd put a block on Jamster; I suppose credit where it's due. However, carriers should be far more proactive in weeding out companies who seek to use underhand methods of making easy money. My advice is just contact your carrier and be firm with them - they provide the service and you wouldn't expect Sky or Virgin to charge you for pay per view services you hadn't signed up for - so you shouldn't have to pay for a) something you've not explicitly signed up to; and b) that doesn't provide the output (in my son's case this was because he didn't have data connectivity but I've seen stories where others haven't received what they've 'signed up' for).

My 12 year old daughter texted to 75555 and we were charged $9.99 a month for 4 months. Shame on me for not looking more closely at the bill, but shame on them for duping a 12 year old into "subscribing." I called AT&T and they credited me about $20 and blocked further purchases without a PIN to authorize them. That should have been set up in the first place. (which I barely talk on my phone anyways) there are countless chrges from Jamster still on there... when I told the customer service lady that that makes no sence I cancelled as soon as I subscribed she said well you have to contact them I can't do anything... can't do anything! you don't do anything in the first place except rob people of their money... and JAMSTER??? wow, biggest theifs ever! AT&T helped get rid of Jamster for us
August 10, 2010 - We just received our cell phone bill, and there was a charge for Jamster, which we DID NOT authorize. I called AT&T, and they were able to remove Jamster from our account. They also offered a free ONE TIME charge blocker (there was another name for it, but I can't remember now). Anyway, the way it works is, any attempts from anyone (other than your cell phone provider) to charge anything to your cell phone will trigger an alert on your phone, which will say something to the effect of "A company is trying to charge something to your cell phone bill. If you authorize this, please input your PIN number. If you do not authorize this, the charge will be denied." AT&T sent me the PIN number, so now, according to AT&T, unless I input that PIN and specifically authorize a charge to my bill (which I will never do, ever), we will not be charged for that application or service. My advice is, do NOT call Jamster. Don't deal with them at all. Just call your cell phone provider and ask for their advice on what to do. AT&T was very helpful to us on this. Poor guy, I got a little snippy with him, too, because I was so ticked off about this. But he was completely professional, and was a great help. Good luck!

I top up my phone... just to have no credit again
Some time ago in this year (I can't really remember when), when I was in a website for guitar tabs, an advertisement (or link) showed if I wanted the particular song in my phone. I accepted the offer, hoping it might grant my wish. So I grabbed my phone, typed in my phone number on the computer, and a message on my phone appeared. I checked if I had recieved the ringtone, and I didn't. When I started checking my balance some time after, it took off a large amount of my credit, which got me suspicious. Until recently, I didn't know how to unsubscribe, so I had to just suffer the consequences. I have currently unsubscribed from them, and sent Jamster a complaint, but I haven't taken any further action. I an still worried that I may be charged even after I unsubscribed.

Jamster.com Ringtone Scam!!
While trying to access my facebook website in my celfon, I mistakenly ( I don't know how)hit something that took me to this jmaster website. On my celfon screen it says-- "1 ringtone download for your celfon" and on the bottom half of my screen it says "or 10 downloads for 9.99". I was thinking, oh well, maybe this is a promotion that they are trying and I get "1 free ringtone". So I went ahead and and hit "1 ringtone for your celfon". It took me to another screen that pretty much say the same thing. "You have 1 ringtone... blah, blah" So I hit the free ringtone again, or so it sounds like. Then the next page came and it says, "thank you for your subscription of ringtone from this stupid website... Your account has been charged 9.99....". I immediately called the jamster.com number. The representative told me yes my account has been charged and she can't take it off for this month's bill. She can cancel it for the next month and if I want she will send me a check which I will received in the next 20 days the amount that they've charge me for. I told her no I don't want your check, just go ahead and cancel the charge. I told her It was a mistake and the way you worded it your website seemed like your giving a free ringtone. I told her this is scam and I want you to cancel the charge right now. She said she can't do it because I'm already charged for the whole month but she can cancel it for the next month's bill( yah, right! they already scammed me and she wanted me to believe that I will get my money back in a form of check??)) After a long haul with her, I told her I will report their company to the BBB and hang up. Then I called AT&T and told them my story. The representative confirmed that Jamster did charged my account but she said she will go ahead and cancel that and the cancelation will appear in my billing after 24hrs. I will check my account again since it just happened today. To everyone out their, please DO NOT even get into the jamster.com website if it pops up in your screen. Everything there is a SCAM! For gloucestershire, all you need to do is send an email stating the bare facts of your case to callcentre@gloucestershire.police.uk All areas of UK will have their own call centres, and other parts of the world will have theirs too. It is clear that this is an international problem with a firm that even Orange have claimed to me is legitimate. If someone, even inadvertently, puts your mobile number on to the their site, you will be a victim.

Orange Claim Jamster Is Legitimate!!!
I eventually managed to speak to a real person at orange today as I had stopped my direct debit. Still took them a week to get a letter to me mind!! I have been getting these unwanted texts from jamster 8888. Hasn't coost me much yet, and now that my direct debit is stopped, I shall only pay for my own usage. How do you block a number? Orange have been incredibly unhelpful as well as potentially being accessories to theft if Jamster's activities do prove to be illegal, as I think they must be. It might be fun to instigate a police investifgation by us all putting into writing, our experineces, and sending to our local crime reporting centre. I think they might be rather interested, especially as this is clearly so widespread. It might just make the mobile phone operators awake from their slumbers with their heads in the sand, Mick Wright, UK

Me Also
I also was led to the download site Jamster under the impression that I would get "free" downloads. I had to join the site, par for the course with most sites. Then I found out that I am being charged ten dollars a month by Jamster! I am trying to get to the bottom of it, but there seems to be no oportunity to log-in to the site again. Just a page to join now. Although I see that it tells you now that they charge the ten dollars a month....It was not there before. The set up was different. I had to give my phone number and create a pin to get to see downloads.

Cell Phone Scammers
Several months ago I was on the internet to download a (FREE) program. After download completed I unzipped it only to find it was password protected. A message popped up saying (we apologize for the inconvenience but to avoid something or another, we need to protect our content). The program was not theirs and was available from 100's of other sites for free(really free). in order to get the password they ask that you complete one of the three surveys, Again FREE in flashing lights. At the end, without any reasons givin you had to input your cell # to complete the survey and get the password, so I figure in for a penny in for a pound and completed the survey with cell #. Within 5 minutes a couple text messages came through informing me of $5. $7. and $10. charges that would be applied to my cell account. I went back and did the whole process again this time examining every letter until I came to the cell # input screen, not one word about any cost or charge. I completely flipped, I went to the program download site again as well as the surveys website and clicked on (contact us) and made it perfectly clear (all swear words I know, and some I didn't think I knew)that if one cent was deducted from my cell account I would hunt them down and "blow up the office they work in" and that all scumbags like them need to die!!!. I closed my rant with complete name, address and cell number. The text messages never came back and not one penny was deducted. This was (according to one of the first text msgs) already accepted and applied. I don't like talking that way to anyone however when I have been robbed or stolen from by something less than human it's all good!

Jamster ATT Wireless
I got lucky and noticed Jamster added to my ATT wireless bill the first month it showed up. I have no idea how it got on there. I didn't download any ringtones, wall paper etc. I called ATT and they said they would be happy to cancel the service. I said cancel? How about a refund? The rep said I must have responded to a text from jamster that spelled out the fee, terms, etc. I told the rep that I did no such thing, that I had looked online and saw lots of people with the same Jamster complaint and that ATT was refunding the charges. She said okay, and credited my bill for the 9.99 monthly fee. Jamster = Scamster.

Playphone Scam
I was charged overnight at 3 am on my att Pay as you go GO phone from playphone as well when I pulled up my account on a computer, I saw the 9.99 charge from playphone listed as ringtones games applications. there were several more charges because texting costs 20 cents for each sms message I send or receive. I called the att #611 and got a live person and she was nice enough to reimburse the 9.99 and 40 more cents for the text messages. if this happens to you, please investigate your phone records online if possible and call your phone company and they might could help in eliminating the scam charges.

These places go by the name of Game Cheats Master, Trivia, SJA mobile, go live mobile and others. A text may come in from 23907. It looks like a generic spam message but little do you know your cell phone account just got charged for $9.99! So watch out. Other numbers include 77877, 77893, 91097, 28394. They prey on the unknowing. Lesson to learn is never enter your cell phone on any website online. I have no idea how I got hit. My son must have taken a hit due to something on face book or attempting to get "free" xbox gamer points. Hey, nothing is free and if it is watch out. I'll be more aware of any "spam" text message I receive as most have seemed innocuous but have stolen money from my account without authorization. Be careful out there.

Jamster—Who Are These People?
I live in Australia, but went overseas for 2 months, so turned off my mobile (cell) and left it in Australia. Yesterday I returned, turned on the phone to listen to many tones, indicating that I had a lot of messages. I looked at the phone and noticed that they were all from the same number, 194000. I tried to call the number to find out what it was about, but it was not a real number. As I had just flown many hours and was tired, I decided to wait a day. This morning, I got an SMS from my service provider indicating that they were topping up my phone automatically, as I had fallen below the $ I had on my account. I immediately went online to look at my charges, knowing that I'd been away for 2 months, and there wouldn't have been any. Imagine my surprise when I discovered $85.00 worth of charges....17 messages at $5.00 each!! I immediately called my service provider and got the name and phone number for the company that was doing that! I must add here that I have NEVER contacted them for any of the things they sell! A call to Jamster put me in touch with an outsourcing person in the Philippines who was programmed with the 'ma'am, I'm sorry, but we cannot refund your money'. No matter what I said, that was her reply. I still have no idea why they started sending these SMSs, as I wasn't even in the country, and my phone was OFF!!!! I have filed a complaint with the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman here in Australia, and have lodged a 'scam' complaint about Jamster online, but who knows? Frankly, I'd rather spend my $85.00 on a nice dinner out, instead of feeding the thieves at Jamster! There was nothing I could have done, even if I'd known about them ahead of time, as somehow they've found my mobile number, where I don't know, and decided to make some $ before I found out! Most distressing!

Yet Another One Ripped Off
Not much of a story here. I just checked my AT&T bill and realized that I've been getting charged 9.99 a month for the last 6 months from Jamster.com, AKA Fox Mobile Distribution. I've never even heard of Jamster.com let alone agreed to pay a monthly fee to them. I called AT&T and they refunded me for three months but refused to go back any further, as a matter of policy. I then filed a BBB complaint against FMD. What was stunning to me is that there are only 41 complaints against it and it is rated as a good company. And yet here is a website with hundreds of stories exactly like mine. My point? LOG ON TO THE BBB AND FILE A COMPLAINT SO THEY WILL KNOW EXACTLY WHAT A SHADY AND UNETHICAL COMPANY THIS REALLY IS.

Back in my preteen years, I had a phone where I didnt have access to the internet, so I bought a ringtone from Jamster. After that, I texted the word "STOP" because they kept sending me texts telling me to subscribe to their $5.99. I've been charged that fee on my phone bill for FOUR years and I dont know how to get it to stop. Im not 18 (phone is under my mom and she doesnt speak ennglish very well), so I dont think I really have the authority to make them pay back all the money. If anyone knows how to get them to at least stop sending the messages--I dont even care about the refund--PLEASE let me know.

Jamster 'Subscriptions'
I renewed my cell phone contract with AT&T lately and added a new phone. The very first new bill from AT&T was loaded with all kinds of stuff I did not request and I jumped on it the day that bill came in. One of those charges was for a Jamster 'subscription'. Now, I do not go online with a cell phone for anything, period. And certainly not ringtones...ever! It seems that one no longer has to visit a Jamster site as did the Jamster Scam editor in order to incur charges. It seems the cell phone providers and/or their client operations are in bed with Jamster and in agreement with their underhanded operations. I am also filing with the BBB, regardless of outcome. Shame on AT&T for aiding and abetting outright theft upon its paying customers.

My 10 year old daughter unwittingly got involved with this evil company, and despite sending the 'stop' message, she was charged again. Granted, she did not read all of the terms and conditions, but she's 10 years old and a bit naive. She doesn't realise that unfortunately companies such as Jamster exist. I've decided that I'm going to make a daily routine of contacting Jamster via their online chat facility, and posting the address to this site, just to hopefully get on their nerves and maybe appeal to their conscience.

Jamster and IQ Scam
I too downloaded a "free" ringtone from Jamster (which I never received, as I had blocked my phone from text messages - due to the IQ scam). So I could never receive the "PIN" number required to activate (or cancel) my account - they still started billing me $6 a month. I only noticed when they said I had a 0 balance on my Pay n Talk account. Lucky for me my phone company did reverse the charges, but a Jamster charge appeared the next month. To cancel - you need to put in your pin, which I can't receive due to blocked text's. So round and round I go - until I am going to pay my provider $10 to change my phone number. And I will never, ever enter my cell number anywhere again! Incidentally, my phone company did try to ply me with the "you should lock your phone when you aren't using it" crap. I also had a couple of weird web brousing charges - they were only 20 cents, but it was the time on them - 4 AM when my phone is comfortably esconsed in my purse, and I have no children or other strangers in the house. My husband has his own phone that he could use to surf the web if he knew how! The IQ scam was on Facebook (Intelligence Quotience test). If you want the results you have to put in your cell #, and then they will text you at least 5 useless trivia answers a day at whatever rate your phone company charges!

Thieves
Ah pretty much what's come before me really. Although I'd noticed SMS messages from them arriving in my inbox on a weekly basis, I'd never bothered reading the things, partially as they were just strings of gibberish preceding a URL. Anyway, today I happened to examine an overly expensive phone bill & noticed these "Premium SMSs" - all from Jamster. & it's a lot of money, with a lot more expected next month according to their Live Chat girl to finish off the "contract" I only opted out of today. Amusingly, she explained that as I have an iPhone I was never applicable for their services. So they've been pilfering a lot of cash for something I couldn't receive. From memory the "sign-up process" was via clicking on a web link offering a free service. Nothing else was obvious at the time. I plan to tell my service provider to not honour the debt they feel they're due next month. & I hope to get my provider to wipe what money is on my current bill. It's just such a scam, I pity the droves of kids (I'm 33!) who get suckered into this. Probably worth mentioning too is that every SMS they send, in Australia, comes at a $4.55 cost.

Another Scam
So I discovered, whilst talking to my phone operator, that Jamster had been charging me £3 a week for services I had not subscribed to, for about 6 months. So today I went on Jamster live service chat and here is the convesation.
Oliver [17:29]: Welcome to our Service Chat. If you have written a question , please give me a second to read it.
Adrian Berry [17:29]: It would appear that Jamster has been charging me £3 per week for a service I did not subscribe to, which is illegal. I do not download ringtones, music or anything else and have not subscribed to your service (or any other) in my entire life. Can you inform me how I can get this money refunded?
Oliver [17:29]: One moment please.
[17:31]: Following plan has been activated: 2009-06-25 / Jamster / 3.00 GBP / via Voice Portal. Please provide us with your full name and postal address. The refund will be sent to you via draft. It's amounting to 13.50 GBP.
[17:32]: I'm sorry, it's 15 GBP.
Adrian Berry [17:33]: It is (address given). However according to my phone provider you charged me for several months, this only amounts to 6 weeks? And what is a voice portal? I have never used one.
Oliver [17:34]: It's via Voice over Portal. It (sentence not completed)
Adrian Berry [17:34]: I only stopped the service a few weeks ago so it must be at least half a year you charged me if from June
Oliver [17:34]: Let me check if we can process a higher refund.
Adrian Berry [17:34]: I request the full amount or I'll be consulting my lawyer
Oliver [17:35]: Okay. I'll forward your concern to the proper department and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Adrian Berry [17:36]: how will you do this? And I would like to know who gave you the authorisation to charge me
Call disconnected.
So it's a bit of a "watch this space." They have already admitted liability in offering money, but I now wait to see if I get the full amount. Anyone else been charged for using "voice portal?" Can someone else do this on your behalf? Or could it possibly be Jamster themselves calling up to register?

Jamster Ripoff Via Lyrics Web Site
So I was looking to save the lyrics to a Fleetwood Mac song named I'm so Afraid. Of course I just went to the first web site listed on Google. When there, there was a hyperlink from this sleazy Jamster company asking me if I wanted to purchase the song as a ringtone. I followed the links--big mistake--I know--but then never got the ringtone. I contacted Jamster via their web/help chat line. Lots and lots of aggravation then ensued between me and these help folks in the Philippines. To make a long story short, Jamster did not have that song, but of course their sleazy automated system, after processing my phone and Verizon account info., didn't tell me that. Lots and lots more aggravation on the real phone with them and with Verizon, who, for our audience here, was also of no help. I am a business researcher and am trying to find the real phone numbers for this sleazy company. Anyone have that info? I got from one site that two executives there are Stephen James Armstrong and ALexandra Duncan Armstrong in the UK. I am leaving my email address here in case anyone knows how to contact them for real and not a call center overseas. Thanks.

Jamster = Scum
Don't even recall how it started, I think I went to a website to try to get a ringtone for my daughter's cell phone. Pretty certain I was never aware that I signed up for anything. 12 months later was reviewing the cell phone bill, and noticed an $8.00 charge. It had been on there for the last 12 months!! I went to Jamster website and went into their live chat. No idea whether I will actually see the refund money OR if my "service" has actually been cancelled. Here is the transcript.
Jamster Rep [07:09]: Welcome to our Jamster Service Chat. If you have written a question, please give me a second to read it.
Me [07:09]: Please pay me back all the money you stole from me.
Jamster Rep [07:10]: One moment please. I'll go ahead and check your number. Thank you. [07:12]: We are sorry that you were unhappy with our services. With cancellation the following credits will be forfeited. Are you sure you want to give up on them? Ringtones : 38 Graphics : 38
Me [07:12]: will you pay me back all the money?
Jamster Rep [07:13]: Let me check. May I know since when you have been using the mobile number?
Me [07:14]: not sure, about a year I think [07:15]: I'll check my records if you need an exact date
Jamster Rep [07:15]: I see. If you're no longer interested I will go ahead and cancel the service and process a refund worth 20.00 CAD.
Me [07:16]: I think you have charged me about $80 in total, and I never authorized you to do so
Jamster Rep [07:17]: Please bear with me. I'll be asking for approval of your request. [07:20]: 50.00 CAD. I will be needing you complete name and postal address and it will sent via refund check.
Me [07:22]: can't you just refund via my cell phone bill?
Jamster Rep [07:24]: I do apologize but we could not credit it directly to your phone credit. They may be the one who's responsible for the billing in part of Jamster but we cannot do it on our end.
Me [07:25]: so, I can give you my address via this chat?
Jamster Rep [07:25]: Yes, you may.
Me [07:25]: ok [07:26]: Address given etc..
Jamster Rep [07:28]: Thank you for the information! I am confirming the your Jamster Value Plan is now cancelled 2010-01-21. I will also be processing the refund worth 50.00 CAD and it will be sent to you in the next 20 business days.
Me [07:29]: ok, thanks. I honestly do not recall signing up for this service, and am not very happy about losing money in such a silly manner.
Jamster Rep [07:31]: You're welcome. Please do not hesitate to contact us back. Thank you and have a nice day ahead of you!

No Ringtone
I've seen the ad for Jamster several times on TV and decided that I would purchase a ringtone. I just wanted to buy one thing and try out the service--so luckily I did not sign up for the 10 dollar monthly fee. I purchased one song, which by-the-way was hard to do because they kept forcing the 10 dollar monthly service. Anyways, I purchased the item and it never came. I got an sms text saying it was on its way with a working link to the website. I waited a couple hours then called them. The first rep asked me to check the functions on my phone and other stuff to see if my phone was,"compatible". She then told me everything checked out and that she was going to re-send the application. I waited for the sms text message and still nothing. So, I waited a couple of days and called again. The girl spoke over what I was trying to tell her. She told me the same garbage the first girl told me and tried to make it out like it was my phone that was the issue. Finally, I got her to send an e-mail to their "techs" and told me they would get back to me in three days. Three days came and went and still no ringtone or even an e-mail. I called again, for the third time, and I got a girl who tried to talk over me and didn't answer the questions I was asking--instead ignored me. I had enough. I asked to speak to her Manager or Supervisor. When I asked her this, she asked me why I wanted to speak with her. She then put me on hold for half an hour, came back and told me to hold again. Then there was some fumble with the phone and a woman picked up the phone as if it was the same person I was talking to previously. She gave me the same garbage and said that she was going to,"personally handle this" and send an e-mail to the techs on my behalf and get back to me. Weeks went by. I called again and told them that I want my money back. They didn't even want to give me back my money--it was only until I threatened to report them to the BBB (Better Business Bureau) that they said they'd draw me up a check for the amount they charged me and that it would take 20 business days before it reached me.
I am not pleased at all. I think more people should be warned before they waste their time and money! Keep in mind the timeline of all these events was from the last day of December to today, January the 18th, 2010—almost a month.

Jamster Huck
It was a TV ad with the number to download a ringtone. I did. Next month - about a 6 dollar bill for the ringtone. I said I was stupid to do it - I should pay. I paid. Next month - 13 dollars form Jamster again. Next month again and again. I called Jamster. They sent 20 dollars out of 26 back to me, however charged me again next month. No explanation of why they even started to charge me. They started to send text messages to my cell and once you got one you are caught. I am still not sure that I will not have any more charges in the next bill.

Joke of the Day
A few years ago I had gotten my first phone, and so I didn't really know about scams and such, but I was hanging out with my friend on the couch watching TV and an ad comes on telling you to send the word "Joke" to a certain number and they will send you the joke of the day. They sent me two texts and only on the second one did they tell me that it charged quite a lot! I immediately sent "Stop" to the number and it unsubscribed. A few years later and one phone later, I saw a Google ad that said "Shoot the golden iPhone for your chance to win a gold plated iPhone" the ad was a little game that when you hover over it moves a gun and if you click it shoots, so I shot the "Golden iPhone" and it took me to a site that asked for my phone number for the chance to win, so I entered my number and got about three texts that all told me how much they cost. I unsubscribed and then I called Telecom and asked them to reverse the charges and they gave me the same bullshit story about "Third party" so they gave me the company's number and I called it, and of course there was silence. 1 phone later and 1 number later, I ignore anything that asks for my cellphone number, luckily you can't charge money to email addresses.

Charged for Services Not Received
I had subscribed to Jamster for several months, and I enjoyed the wallpapers and ringtones, but after a while I ordered ringtones and never received them. I cancelled my subscription several days before the next month's debit would hit my account. A week or so later I noticed a $9.99 debit on my bank account. I looked on my Jamster account to see if I had accidentally not fully cancelled, but I couldn't get onto my account, since it said that the account was no longer valid. Well ,I e-mailed customer service, informing them that I had cancelled on this date, before the debit was to hit, and they said that it shows on their end that I cancelled three or four days after the date that I actually did cancel, which gave them the right to charge me for another month's service. They argued with me and called me a liar, and refused to refund my money. Don't fall for this scam, these people are just out to rip off your money. Don't find out the hard way like I did.

Apparently, it's your own fault if you ever, ever, ever, leave your phone unattended
So, saw a charge from Jamster on my cell phone bill. I call my cell company, tell them calmly, thinking this will be fixed in 30 seconds, "Hey, need to remove this charge... I didn't ask for it". Then, the most arrogant self-righteous rep I could get says "No, you had to have signed up for it, they wouldn't be allowed to charge you otherwise, and I can't do anything for you' I went from calm to boiling, but maintained the calm voice. 'Heh', I said... "anyway, no I didn't, so you need to remove it". He then tells me again he can't, and that it will reoccur and it is between me and Jamster to work it out. 'I need to speak to your supervisor', He started to run his mouth and get arrogant again, but before he got five words out, I interrupted him and said, "By the way, you don't know who I am yet so you might want to let me speak to your supervisor" I got a moment of silence as I could tell he was likely skimming my account info or my last name, then I think he just realized he better play it safe and transfer me. It was a tactic, because I wasn't anybody, and knew no one high up. But it seemed to work.
Then I get a supervisor, who seems to be a bit more polite but repeats the "that's between you and the third party". So I use another tactic, I say calmly, like in casual conversation, "yeah, that's what your subordinate said, so I just want to be very clear here and repeat back to you how I understand this... so, if my phone was ever, for even a moment, left unattended and someone wanted to send a text to Jammer saying the phone accepts their services, you are saying tough luck for me? In reply, I get "Well, sir, you are responsible for knowing where your phone is at all times'. I say back, "really? Where does it say that in my contract with you, that no one ever will have access to my phone when I might not know about it?(then I interrupted myself and quickly interjected), Oh, I am recording this phone call by the way, I record all my phone calls, it's legal in Ohio (then I continue), and while I am responsible for KNOWINGLY allowing someone else to use my phone and rack up charges, is it really reasonable and ethical to tell a customer that they are responsible for never, ever, ever, ever for even a few seconds, letting their phone be somewhere they are not aware of? As in when sleeping, working, playing, etc? So, I want to make perfectly clear here, having this recorded to convert into an MP3 to be posted on our company websites and anywhere else, that you are saying that during work, play, or sleep, if someone else gets to my phone and maliciously authorizes a charge, that your official response is that I should not have let the phone out of my possession? I want to make this clear... that your company really believes that most people know where their phone is 100% of the time, and you honestly reject my notion that likely 100% of cell phone users have several instances in a month when they are not holding their phone or it is otherwise not locked up in a safe?"
Almost immediately, I was told she might be able to get the charges removed. I told her "No, you WILL get them removed, not 'might,' because honey, I got the money to make this a big deal and can easily afford to let you keep letting $10/month rack up on my bill after I told you I didn't authorize the charges, just to drive home the absurdity of the conversation we just had that I am recording."
She then said she would get them removed, and I said "great. I'll look for it, but if you change your mind, we'll be dealing with this in a much more involved manner.. otherwise, it ends here and we're all happy" The charges disappeared and I didn't get any more texts or charges from jamster.
The punch line is this: I don't own a company, I don't have money, and although I record most of my calls to customer service issues (it is legal to record phone conversations without telling the other party about it, in Ohio anyway, as long as ONE person in the conversation, that being the person doing the recording, knows it is being recorded.. in other words, you can't record two OTHER people without one of them knowing about it), but in this case, I just didn't think to record it. I think my calm, almost laughing demeanor made her believe I was a rich CEO of some company that would cause some real issues. The sad part about that is, though, that's what it takes to get fair treatment.. power... the little guy doesn't get the same ethical treatment. It's sickening, really.

$13.00 Monthly Charge from Rogers
I received a charge on my monthly Rogers bill for $13.00 which was titled Jamster. I am a huge hater of Rogers already and have had many issues with the company previously. As a result, I decided to pay the $13.00 I.e. let it slide rather than get in another confrontation with Rogers. However, when I received my next Rogers bill I noticed that I was gain charged another $13.00. Well, I was pretty much irate at this point as I have no idea what Jamster is or for. I called Rogers to find out what the hell was Jamster and to say have this refunded and removed right away. Well the nice Rogers person explained that this was a third party and therefore they could do nothing for me. What a bunch of crap - like Rogers is simply an innocent bystander. I told Rogers that they again have screwed me as there is no way that Rogers is not receiving something to provide this admin function on behalf of Jamster. As far as I'm concerned, cell phone companies are the biggest bunch of crooks known to man! I trust cigarette companies more than I trust Cell phone companies. I have one year left on my contract, at which time I will hang-up my cell phone for the last time!

Jamster Scammed My Exhausted Daughter
My 12-year-old had a sleep over during Halloween, and went to bed ~3 AM. Her phone pager motor was broken, so she had it on audible ring. Jamster started sending texts to her at 5 AM, which woke her up. She says they said something like "text 2 to cancel your new ringtone service", or something similar to that. Usually she is smart enough to ignore unsolicited messages, but at 5 AM and with 2 hours sleep she thought she doing the right thing by canceling a service that she did not want. Today (one month later) I discovered 2 charges of $9.99 on our phone bill. One was right after she texted back, and the other was one month later. They planned to bill use $9.99 every month for the rest of our lives. I immediately tracked down the business billing these charges and canceled the recurring service. We got nothing at all! Just charges of $9.99 per month. Jamster is truly evil.

More Jamster Scamming
My daughter had the same experience. She is under 18 and if you go to their website it says you must be 18 or have parental consent to order your free ringtone. The ad told her no credit card would be charged so she thought it would be ok to give her phone number. So of course we were charged 9.99 on our phone bill. My husband ran up to the Sprint store and they said he had to call this particular company. Many phone calls later (and time) they promised to reverse the charges, but only 9.99 of it. My husband told them the total was 78 cents more, due to taxes. They refused to refund the taxes, claiming THEY didn't charge us that. They had no number of their mother company to call and assured us all further requests to refund the tax would fall on deaf ears because they can only refund us what they charged us. Round and round we go. It was the priciple of the matter.

Jamster Scam
Hi, Similar story, I'm in the UK and curiously did a search for free ringtones. Clicked on jamster which front page seemed to be asking nothing more than a phone number to download the tone to. I swiftly recieved about four texts from Jamster (Scamster!) and an alert from my phone telling me that I'd just spent £4.50. I quickly texted "stop" to the service to prevent any more charges. After that I recieved two more texts telling me that I'd already paid so why not opt back in. Naturally I was reluctant to take the chance of being scammed twice so left it at that.

Scamster
I had just gotten a new phone from AT&T, and I was trying to access my email from the web browser. I pressed "menu -> go to" thinking it would allow me to enter a URL. Instead, it clicked on the currently-selected element, which subscribed me to Jamster's ringtone service for $10/mo. I called them immediately to cancel the service and not charge me. The service representative told me that she could cancel future charges, but I would still be charged for the first month's service, so I might as well go ahead and download my ten ringtones. I said, no, remove the charge. She got my address and promised to issue the rebate check (it's still too early to tell if that's actually happened). This whole scenario is pretty scammy. I blame AT&T for making signing up for a service like this as easy as accidentally pressing the wrong button one time. I blame Jamster for having the representative lie to me by telling me that she could not refund the first month's charge, and then immediately changing her mind when I insisted. It's obvious that they train their representatives to say this in order to try to siphon money out of people unfortunate enough to have their billing information get into the hands of these greedy scumbags.

I browsed the Jamster site for ringtones when I had a new phone and submitted my mobile number. I don't remember signing up for any pay services but when I got my next mobile bill I find the text messages Jamster 88888 sent me had been charged to me at approx. $1.20 a time! What a complete scam. It was probably all there in the small print but to my mind it definitely falls under the heading of a rip-off/scam as I never knowingly agreed to being sent text messages that would be charged to me. Got Success in Fighting this SCAM!
Heya All, I made a previous post yesterday, made a little web research since then. Today I called my Optus provider and informed them this way - the company I mistakenly subscribed to didn't explain the charges, they didn't notify me neither up front, neither when I unsubscribed. The charge is not authorized and obviously just a fraud. Their mention of "no refund policy" is not acceptable because they operate in a legal environment and it is just illegal not to have a "refund policy". I also has informed them that I didn't authorize Optus to charge me this additional charge either. I requested them to make a refund and to put the Third Party Block. Guess what? In 3 minutes I received a refund and the promise that the bill will be adjusted, they also have blocked these scambags from sending me any other sms messages. Few things I learned:
- NEVER give your phone number to any provider of any kind of "free services".
- Stand your ground, there is a law to protect you. If you don't know about it it may be very hard for you to do anything. You should know that you must pay only when you are legally obliged to pay.
If someone obtains your information and do not inform you that you are obliged to pay for their "services" - this is illegal. Never agree to it, and escalate it - protect your rights, basically. Good luck to everyone.

Same kind of story happened to me in Sydney, NSW, Australia in June 2009. The next thing I have discovered is that I have an additional charge of $30 on my Bill(!!!) And my "Optus" provider had told me they cant do anything unless I negotiate it with the scambags themselves. I did tried, and called them 2 times, and they have said that the refund is not applicable. I'm still fighting this stuff right now. Be aware. Scambags, that's it. wap.zingtines.tv sms scam
for the past 3-4 wks I have been receiving sms from zingtines offering me 'exclusive' games which cost $6,one day each week il get 3-4 of these sms.my only response was to send 'stop all' yet they still continued, this was a little irritating but not a major problem.....until I actually realised yesterday that I have been charged about $1.50 FOR EACH of these sms,I immediately tried(via mobile internet)to connect to their webpage to find domain name not listed!!!came straight on web and found this page +I now think this company have gotten my #from facebook app.am now going to phone vodafone and ask if they can block these thieves from sending me any more sms.I am pretty careful about giving my phone # out for anything and I know for a fact if I did I wud have made sure to check the box that declines it being passed onto other companys.so my advice is NEVER give your phone number.I am also going to complain about this to bbb. very angry, northumberland

Sprint really is a good company with this...
Ok, the first time it showed up on the bill, it was PlayPhone Inc: Ringers - Playphone-rgr -04/17 $14.99... It happened to be on my wife's line, so I asked her about it. She had no idea, and did not purchase any ringers or apps. Hmmmm... I just changed phones and agreement packages, so I thought she might have clicked something. Then it showed up again. I did some research and found out about the IQ test with Facebook. Oddly enough, this is about the same time my wife started her account with Facebook. I asked her, and sure enough, she took the IQ test. I went through Sprint's online chat and asked them about the charge. They immediately put a third party block on my account and refunded me for the month (I did not even get to the point of asking for the refund, they just did it). No questions asked, no problems. This is one reason I will stay with Sprint ( I have been with them for 8 years now). They were great in dealing with this scam and refunded my account within 10 minutes of starting the chat. Nice to see that there are still companies out there that are loyal to their consumers. Thanks again Sprint!!!

Kipper,
Yes, that is an example of good customer service (I think Sprint has been praised for that before); and remarkebly none of the others seem to come close. But at the same time, it highlights how accustomed we are to abuse from our wireless service providers that when we call them on the fraud that they've participated in perpetrating on us, and they correct it, we praise them! Perhaps we should call this "battered customer syndrome."

I did the old facebook IQ test and suddenly I received a text message on my phone. I thought nothing of it until I noticed I was charged $9.99 each month, which caused me to be underpaid on my AT&T account, which cause an extra charge of $10 for late fee. Thanks Jamster! PS: FUCK YOU JAMSTER.

Playphone Scam
Damn! I just discovered a $14.99 a month subscription fee from these weasels at OpenMarket Playphone Jamsters whatever they want to call themselves. Luckily, AT&T removed all charges and are putting a block for such charges on my account. That is more than fine with me and it seems like everyone should have these protections by default. I think someone has left a trap door open for companies that want to generate business without the client's consent. A fancy way of describing "theft," pure and simple. And if you google the company involved, they are fairly big. Unscrupoulous, but probably legal. Hopefully, not for long.

Amberr,
Have your mom (not you) call Jamster and say it was a 12 year old who ordered on the handset without permission. Then they will ask how much you were billed. Ask them to tell you, because it's right in front of them. Or you can add up all the past bills you have and have your mom tell them that. They will take down your mom's information and send her a check.

Verizon 1.99 MB rip off
was charged 1.99 MB for just "browsing" the applications dnloads to see if I wanted to purchase any. It seems if you just connect to their application, game or music store to look they charge you, I was looking at my w755 and how easy it would be to accidentally log on even if you didn't want to and the second you connect you are charged 1.99 even for 1 second of connection. if you did this a couple times a day wow what a bill. Called them and they said they could block connection but I couldn't send txt or pics even though I am paying 10.00 a month for unlimited txting. By the way if you have Verizon wireless if you are the account owner you can log onto your account and block premium txt services from being called from or sent to your you phone. Its in add and remove features and its free, you have to do it for every phone on your account if that what you want to do. Verizon doesn't advertise it but its there. You can just about block everything but that 1.99 connection... what a rip off.

FaceBook I Q Test scam
Received a few notices that my friends were smarter than me and was challenged to an IQ test to see if I was smarter than my friends. Took the test and my cell phone number was requested and pin number and then I would receive a test result...Little did I know that I would also receive a charge from some company on my Virgin cell phone account. Called Virgin to ask about this charge and was told to text message the number 91075 and text Stop subscription. I received a replay that my subscription was cancelled and if I had any question or concerns I could call 1-800-235-7105. I googled the 1-800 number and from it was from Jamster and quickly learned that I was not the only fool to get hooked for a charge from them. Facebook's Quizzes
I was relocated back to America and low and behold, we have this new social site called Facebook. I create an account and see hundreds of applications. One day, I saw a pop-up asking if I was smarter than my friends. The quiz was stupid and I should have caught it. Then it asked to enter the text code I received through a phone number I ente4red into the site. Ever since then, I am getting rappers news updates. I didn't think much of it afterwards. Three months later, I decide to look at my cell phone bill and I see a charge for $10 for data service. I called and asked about this charge, and Verizon told me that I signed up and I could not do anything about it. I immediately looked up the business online and sure enough, thousands have been scammed. Most have been credited back but this guy was telling me I had to pay. I told him, I am not paying, and if you think you cannot put that credit into the system, you will have a lawsuit for profiling. I am on the unlimited $99 plan. I also told him I would love to cancel. He told me that I can cancel and that I would have to pay the early termination fees. I told him, fine, if it means that my business is worth $200 to you, I would love to pay and switch to AT&T. Suddenly, he says, sorry we can credit it back. And I am fine afterwards. I got suspicious and called back again to see if any other months have been paid. Sure enough, I was charged in other months as well for $9.99. Mad as hell, I will call them again to credit me back. I am in no way supporting lowlife scammers and I wish we can hire some people to teach them some righteousness. I rather support hungry children or even street bums that wipe windows. Hey, at least they try to work for money.

I browsed the Jamster site, merely considering whether I wanted to download a ringtone and seeing what it was about. I decided it wasn't worth a purchase and navigated off their website. Lo and behold, the next month I'm charged nearly $40.00 for services I never ordered! I called AT&T and had a 'block' placed on my account and the charges backed off by them (no complaints from them, there). But 2nd month ... there are the same charges again! MMtext TXTalert charges
I went online tonight to check my Verizon Wireless bill & discovered it was about $20 higher than normal. I saw that I had 2 premium text messages on my bill, costing me an extra $19.98. I sat on hold for about 20 minutes waiting to get a rep, & during the meantime I racked my brain trying to figure out what these charges could be for. All I could think of was that my 8-year old daughter had been online a few times about a month ago, and had clicked on some IQ quiz & something for a free ringtone. She asked me my cell phone # & I refused to give it to her, saying she is never to enter my cell # online for anything. Well, she ended up memorizing it later & apparently must have entered it somewhere. I started getting texts of jokes that weren't even funny, one from #44999 & from #86455. I called Verizon tonight & they said they would cancel these "subscriptions" and put a lock on my acct so they couldn't charge me again. I asked if I should call Better Business Bureau & they said that basically, good luck getting paid back for this, as it will probably be pretty hard. All the rep could tell me was: mmtext txt alert, 44999 86455. Like that is going to help me much.

From YouTube to Jamster subscription!
I was looking for information to see if I could use an iPhone 3G with T-mobile. There was a YouTube video with a link posted next to it for obtaining directions on how to set up the iPhone 3G to use T-mobile. I clicked on the link and was taken to a page where I could select instructions for using T-mobile with the iPhone. I am then taken to a site where I enter my phone number and get a pin sent to my phone. This will supposedly let me get the info. Instead, I end up at a site called Jamster with an account and no instructions! I sent the required text "stop" to get out of this site and was asked if I was sure, since I already purchased a plan!! I immediately contacted one of Jamster's representatives on an on-line chat and had the subscription cancelled. I am now waiting (within 20 days) for a check in the mail for the amount of $9.99. Meanwhile, my phone bill will have a charge against it. These people are VERY SNEAKY!! I can just imagine how they screw over younger kids!

I Hate Jamster
Whenever I wake up in the morning I have a phone alarm that wakes me up. For some reason on my phone there is only one song available for the alarm, despite the fact that I have a few other songs. I realized it was because this song was a "polyphonic" song. I hated this song, its like a melody of "I Wanna Love You" and its absolutely rubbish, so I searched 'Free Polyphonic ringtones' on the internet, and found jamster. They happened to have a few songs I like - I chose Green Day , When I Come Around, in melody/polyphonic obviously. And they said it was free. SO WHY THE HELL DID #5 GET TAKEN OFF MY CREDIT?! and then they kept texting me until I made them stop, then kept sending me the link for my song. But you had to use your phone internet to download it, and mine doesn't work. I HATE JAMSTER.

No Perks Phone Users
My Sept. ATT bill had a charge on it for Jamster XXL on my college daughter's phone number. I just thought she probably downloaded a "free" ringtone. I paid and made a note to charge her for it. Then when I asked her about at the next billing cycle, when I saw the 9.99 charge again, she reminded me that she still uses the factory-set ringtone on her phone just like mine. She's right, she doesn't have a new ringtone, and she doesn't have any games downloaded either. We have no idea how or why her phone was charged, although after reading your stories, I realize she probably took some "free" IQ test on Facebook. I asked ATT to refund, so they are going to try to dispute the charges, waiting through 2 billing cycles. They said I can write a letter of complaint to ATT but as long as we actually put in our phone number on any form, we are responsible for the charges! Doesn't matter if you don't know there are charges. What a rip-off. I'm disappointed in ATT for allowing this company to do business with them.

I rang a number in the Philippines to try and stop it, but the person who answered just babbled on about how I should download the wallpaper and ringtones I had already paid for. I said "I DON'T WANT THEM, I JUST WANT THIS TO STOP". I have never, and will never, download these things I have 'paid' for unwillingly. You're right, they lied! The stories on this web site comprise a large body of evidence that they are committing fraud. These are personal stories, eyewitness accounts of their defrauding the public, and they do this with the complicity of the wireless service providers who share in the profits and collect the money for them.

Send Text for Free Ringtones
My son saw a commercial on TV that said text "75555" for free Ringtones. He was curious and thought "it's free, why not try it out" and thought it would just send him a random ringtone. He got nothing, and thought nothing more of it. Until... On our October Sprint bill a charge for $9.99 "Jamster: Ringers - 75555 Jamster Ringtn - 10/09" When I asked my son what this was, he relayed the story I opened with. So I started Googling Jamster. I found the link to this Jamster Scam page and started reading similar stories from others. While reading it became apparent that this was not going to be a "one-time charge" but a subscription (??!!). I have been thoroughly impressed with Sprint and how they've handle my concerns (been with them for more than 5 years now). Though it seems that others had no luck with their cell phone providers, I decided to call Sprint to see what could be done. It was a 7 minute phone call which ended with "I have shut off the Jamster subscription and will apply a credit adjustment for the $9.99, though it may take a couple of billing cycles for the credit to appear on your account." THOROUGHLY IMPRESSED YET AGAIN WITH SPRINT - PROBLEM SOLVED.

Hey "Angry Kid"
Jamster is evil and they deliberately rip people off. They couldn't do it without the cooperation of T-Mobile. T-Mobile is evil too. They know all about the scam. All of the stories people send in to this web site are proof of what is going on, but the phone companies don't stop it. They work together with Jamster to steal your money and they split the profit.
My advice is to call T-Mobile and demand your money back from them. For one thing, why should you deal with Jamster when you never did business with them in the first place? For another thing, T-Mobile has a lot more to lose, both in your future business (if you should choose to switch to another wireless service provider) and in their reputation when the word gets around about how unethical they are (or if you should submit a complaint to bbb.org, they would hate that).

Facebook Quiz turns into a Jamster Scam
I received an IQ quiz from my friend on Facebook. Thinking it was just a friendly quiz from a friend - I took it. It asked like 10 silly questions and then it said to get you score, type in your phone number. Immediately, I receive a text on my phone but it was from jamster and it gave me a pin number. the website said in order to get my IQ score, I have to put in the code from my phone. the website immediately sent me to jamster.com and that's when I realized they scammed me! my text on the phone said "reply ok or type in the pin below to get your product! Enjoy! XXL Plan ($9.99/mo) jamster.com"...by the time you enter your phone number and type in your pin into the computer to "claim your IQ score" - you have already activated a Jamster account. I am so angry. I went to the customer service live chat on jamster.com and she was no help. She kept on telling me that I activated the account and that I will be charged $9.99 via my wireless service provider. So I went from clicking on a friend's invitation to do an "IQ test" to subscribing to a Jamster Ringtone subscription. I just spoke to my friend and she said she has never sent me an "IQ test". So Jamster is now hacking into Facebook to trick more people. Watch out!

I recently noticed being charged $6 by Jamster on my cell bill and recall subscribing to it online for so called free ringtones. Immediately I got a text response confirmed subscription and THEN informed me I would be charged $8 monthly ($2) for my service provider. So I cancelled the subscription straight away and got the "sorry to see you go" text response. Despite that I was charged and upon calling Jamster first of all there was no option for Rogers customers and so the automated message was that "I could not be helped". Then I tried the number they sent me texts from and the personnel that answered advised me that it doesn't matter that I cancelled immediately and that JAMSTER charges the moment you sign up online! Then she goes "don't worry though because you will most definitely see no more charges billed to your account this point forward"!! JAMSTER is a thief!!!

They have given me an 800 number each time so that I may try and sort this out but the number is no good. Been disconnected. So far they have actually credited me for three of the five and got told today that they have already credited the maximum amount they are allowed. I for one am ready to take up a class action lawsuit. It seems the only way. The BBB had to help me get back the money they took. What is this!! I received a text message saying congrats on your subscription to Game Cheats Master. I texted back, saying I did not sign up for this, and I had better not be billed. I just got my Verizon bill, and I have been charged $9.99 for this service. How did they get my cell #? My spouse works for Verizon!!

Shame on Centennial Wireless too!!!
We have been getting charged $9.99 since December when we switched our 2 phones from Nextel to Centennial. This is such a SCAM and shame on Centennial for not warning their customers or taking action. We did not have this problem with Nextel, which I am now sorry we switched, when we called the 800 number given to us of course, guess what, no one answered, all teleprompts! When we called Centennial AGAIN, they gave us the same 800 number which we tried to tell them we did that months ago and she mentioned this company is being sued! We have now paid $179.82 extra for something we knew nothing about in the beginning! I am letting you know if you are getting phone service from Centennial or any other cell phone service, make sure you ask them lots of questions, for one, I worked for them YEARS ago when it was Cellular One and they would do something similar with the voicemail package with call waiting etc. They would just add it to the bill for $4.95 a month and some of the reps MIGHT tell you about it, but then you would have to remember in 60 days to call if you wanted it cancelled, so I am not buying that Centennial doesn't have anything to do with this! I will fight it to the end-until we win! Will keep you all posted!!!! Good luck!

Refund Finally
I have a verizon prepaid phone I use to travel back and forth to work. While I was sleeping I got a premium sms-message that cost me 19.99.it took 3 tries but I finally got my money credited back too my account, no matter what they tell you at first demand a refund it is the carrier that takes it and gets a cut of it, tell them it was a child that signed up and demand to speak to a supervisor and tell them you are going to go to the attorney gen if they don't refund your money or credits etc....it may take a couple of tries but it usually works, don't let them tell you they cant refund your money cause they can and will if you get serious enough.

Never Ordered
I got my new number yesterday and received a text shortly after saying I renewed my plan ($9.99). Well surprise, I did not even know what Jamster was,Called T Mobile and was told it is ringtones and they removed the charge from my account. I then called Jamster and explained and was told it was a plan from February so it shows what a big mistake it was. I was told they would cancel and text me a confirmation which I never received. But T Mobile knows and took care of it. Plus when tried to text 75555 to put a stop it keeps coming back as: Access denied. Scam Scam Scam.

And the Scam continues
The same thing happened to me, but from TWO companies offering the same kind of service. I entered my cell number ONLY, and received 2 text messages. Then by the end of the month, when my phone bill came, BOOM There it was, a $9.99 charge for each company, for a total of $19.98! I am so tired of Internet Scams! I have no idea how my phone company, AT&T in this case is connected to Jamster or that other website, but one thing I know, I am not paying that extra money :)

Thumbplay.com and Verizon
I received an email from Verizon notifying me that my monthly bill was ready. I went online to view, and discovered that the bill was higher than normal. I reviewed the bill and discovered a charge of $9.99 from a site called thumbplay.com. The problem with this? It was on my son's phone, and he was outside of the Verizon service area camping on the day this was supposedly done. I contacted Verizon and let them know in no uncertain terms that I would not pay the bill, that it would have been impossible for my son to sign up for this service since Verizon didn't have service, and that if I heard from them again I would cancel my service, which includes 4 lines. As for their cancellation fees, good luck collecting them. I couldn't care less what they do to my credit. I also informed them that this was fraud, and since Verizon was collecting the fees, they must be making a profit for doing so. My next action would be filing a complaint with the Michigan Attorney General's Office of Consumers Complaints. Michigan's politicians are the worst in the country, but our AG does go after rip-offs. Verizon agreed to cancel the $9.99 and put a block on all 4 of my lines for premium text service. They agreed to refund the $9.99 I was billed. Issue resolved.

Jamster Scam
MY husband put $50 pre-paid card on to his mobile phone put the phone on and his $50 was eaten up with messages from Jamster costing him all of his $50. Contacting Voder phone asking for some explanation to this,
I was told its Jamster - they charge $5 per message for downloading ring tones etc.
I have never heard of them nor want to download anything.
However I was given a telephone number to phone them. On doing this I was told after I threatened them to go to the television company they said they would reimburse me my $50.
Today I received a cheque for $20 from Jamster. Once again I phoned them and was told they only charge for sign up not the cost of the calls. Well who charges me, they could not tell me and who signed me up in the first place.
When is something going to done about this? I am a pensioner and can hardly afford to loose this $50 - sorry, $30 after receiving the $20.

Ok I was just trying 2 get a free ringtone so I found jamster. It said that jamster is 100% free. So I started signing up but I had to go somewhere so I turned the computer off. When I came back I restarted. So when I was done I realized that the account I signed up for before counted so I lost $10.00. But the one I just signed up for counted too so I lost $20.00.

RingAza
I had my wonderful Moto W755 for about two days when I began looking for Free ring tones from the internet. I stumbled across a site that had the tone I wanted. I selected it and gave the cell number to send it. It sent me a message with a pass word to confirm I had received the ringtone. I entered the pass word and found myself at the scum bag site of RinAza saying "Congrats on signing up to our site, you will be billed $9.99 per month for 15 ringtones and unlimited access to our services" I looked at the screen with a blank face and a pit opening up on the inside of my stomach. Right away I received a text to my phone saying it was from RingAza. I sent the text STOP which I believed would cancel them from texting me. 2 hours after that, I was bombarded with 20 texts. The 20 text wouldn't hurt my bill as I have unlimited texts, but it was the fact that I was duped into going to that site and giving my number to them. I emailed Verizon support with my account info and what not. I told them that I was receiving messages and being billed for stuff that I didn't want, and I was refusing to pay for anything that I didn't get. They told me that it would not be a problem and they would be crediting my account of any money billed and they blocked premium messaging on my account. Thank you soooo much Verizon. Scams like RingAza should be illegal and they should be thrown in jail for false advertisement and stealing from people.

Beyond Getting the Money Back
Okay, so we know how to get our money back -- either through a supervisor or by writing the company. I think we should go further. We need to let Verizon Wireless know whether we'd like them to continue this business practice. Here's a letter I wrote to the CEO. If you all send this one or your own to that same address, the CEO will be able to measure whether the profits from these undertakings are worth the heartshare of his customer set. I do appreciate Mr. Seidenberg's favorable response to my request, but I want him to know how I feel about the partnerships they have developed.

New York, NY 10007
Dear Mr. Seidenberg,
I have been committed to Verizon for the past eight years. Your company has been providing cell phone service to me from the very beginning of my cell phone usage. At present, all of the members of my family are Verizon cellular service customers as well. We are loyal. But a recent experience with Verizon makes me question whether that loyalty and the trust associated with it is unrequited. In a nutshell, a Verizon partner deceived me; as a result, Verizon sent me a bill for $12.58 on behalf of Alert Subscriptions. On the pretense of offering me a free ringtone through the Internet, they were able to charge for services I did not want. They were only able to do so, with your cooperation. I now know Alert Subscriptions is a scam operation. What I'd like to know is that Verizon will disassociate itself from this operation and all operations which use deception to build revenue — theirs and yours. I'm also asking Verizon to return the $12.58, plus taxes and fees, obtained by you on behalf of Alert Subscriptions through deceptive business practices.

I want my 9.99 refund check
My son, in the month of March 2008, went for the free ringtone on MySpace to his phone from Jamster. Jamster billed him 9.99 for the month of March. They automatically billed him again for the month of April. I called them in the month of May and I agreed to a refund charge of 19.98 in the month of May 2008, unaware that there was another charge coming to my bill for the month of May that came on my June bill. I called them today, June12, 2008, and told them there was another 9.99 charge on my bill for the month of May. They inform me that they didn't have to pay or give me my money back because I agree to the 19.98 refund. I told them, "yes, I agreed, but that was for March and April and I hadn't received my May bill yet." Jamster didn't want to hear anything I was saying. They said that there was nothing they could do and that I should send them an email and tell them I did and they said they would address it to the proper department but they doubt if anything would be done. I told them they were ripping off innocent children and making a large profit off innocent people and that something need to be done about it.

They must have changed the meaning of free since I last checked
Well, I have good reason to never download ringtones over the internet again. I was searching Google for a free ringtone provider, and stumbled across Jamster claiming to have "over 20 000 hit songs" and of course, it gave no mention of cost. I thought, well just give my number and the confirmation code they send, sounds simple enough. I then discovered that I had in fact paid 6 dollars for 2 ringtones and a graphic. When I went back to look at the ad I initially found, I noticed, in very small print "$6.00/mth.". This made me more angry, not only did I get conned into buying ringtones I didn't want, I also got signed up for a monthly service. I was angry, but it seemed easy enough to remove yourself from the per month charge, but the $6 was already gone. I think, not a big deal, I did want ringtones after all, and $6 isn't that bad (compared to the $3.50 I spent earlier in the day on a single tone, which happens to be a favorite song of mine, so cost wasn't an issue). The thing that irked me most, was that my download of one of the ringtones failed, taking away one of the credits for a ringtone, and making me have to re-download the ringtone, costing another credit. The worst part about the whole deal was that they didn't have the song that I wanted in the first place (even though it said they did when I searched on Google). Basically I got charged $6.00 for a ringtone and a graphic which claimed to be free. I haven't actually received my bill yet either, so I could be looking at more than this. I'm going to be a lot more careful out there now.

Virgin Mobile - Jamster Scam
My 13 yr. old daughter has a Virgin Mobile phone. The Day after adding $20 to her account @ Target (1st time we did it at the store - connection?), her balance was $10. She had not used her phone and the charge to the account was made while she was at school and the phone was at home. After over an hour on the phone with Virgin mobile, and many supervisors later, my wife found out that it was a charge from Jamster. Virgin Mobile told her that we would have to contact Jamster because they couldn't do anything about it. They did not have a phone #, only a website. I went on the website and could find no contact phone #. Found this website and another discussing this scam. I called Virgin Mobile irate and had the # within minutes. Asked to talk to a supervisor and was disconnected. I contacted Jamster (will give # at the end) and explained my problem to a lady from the Philippines. She tried to sell me more programs. I told her I want my $ back about 5 times before she could understand that I wanted my $. When asked about how they could do this without anyone approving it, she said " you need to read your text messages. If you don't cancel the subscription immediately after receiving the text, we charge your account." I had her take the phone # off of their text list, send me a check because they can't credit the account and asked to speak to a supervisor. No supervisor available. I filed a complaint with the FCC against Virgin Mobile and Jamster. The phone # for Jamster - 866-856-5267

nirvanatears
[ April 23, 2008 ]
Nirvanatears,
I'm certain that you did get charged. What's insidious about this scam is that they don't need your credit card number; they can charge you by just using your cell phone number. It ought to be criminal. There are no consumer protections in place like there would be for a credit card transaction. It can only be done with the cooperation of your cell phone service provider—they're the ones who bill you. They know it's a scam, but they make so much money that they continue to rip off their own customers and play stupid when you call them to contest it. And our lawmakers have stabbed us in the back by not responding to this widespread fraud, no doubt the influence of the huge and profitable cell phone service provider companies (AT&T, formerly Cingular, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint) has something to do with that.
You should call your wireless service provider and don't give up until they give in. They may tell you to call Jamster or give you excuses and act like they've never heard of it happening before. Ask for a supervisor and that person's supervisor. If worse comes to worse and they are not responding, submit a complaint to the Better Business Bureau (bbb.org). They seem to respond to you quickly once you've made a complaint.
Good Luck

Verizon Premium Text Messaging Opt-Out Option
After receiving another round of joke texts I didn't sign up for, I called verizon and found out that you can now opt out of all premium text messaging with them. it doesn't help if there are other, legitimate premium text messaging services you want (like folks who want to vote for american idol contestants, etc.) but for someone like me who just wants any and all fee-based text messaging to stop, it's perfect.
Not sure of other companies, though, but it's something...

Ringaza Liars and Telecom Enablers
Last month I noticed a charge of $9.99 on my T-Mobile bill for a 'premium text message service' that I never ordered, never heard of, knew nothing about. The charge was from a company called Opera Communications AKA Ringaza. To make a long story short, it took three phone calls to T-Mobile and a threat to discontinue their service and file an FCC complaint before they agreed to take the charge off my bill. Their first response was that there was nothing that T-Mobile could do about it and I would have to take up the issue with Ringaza/Opera. It was only after calling back to discontinue my service that they agreed to give me a credit...on my next bill. If they fail to credit me as promised, I will cancel their service and buy a Go Phone. I also called 'customer service' at Ringaza. They are liars and I caught them red handed. They claimed that someone had to have had access to my cell phone the day that the charge was posted to activate their service. My statement showed no outgoing calls or text messages on that date that could have subscribed me to their service...just a text message from them that I never answered (I had figured it was spam and ignored it). T-Mobile is to blame because they are allowing their customers accounts to be used like credit cards...only they are allowing these phony subscription services to be attached to their bills by anyone (which means everyone)with access to your cell phone number ...without needing any kind of a PIN number.

That way they won't be able to set up subscriptions without a signed legal document from the users, so if you agree with me on this simply use the link below and register. You sign up for my petition and then forward the e-mail to everyone you know, as the more names I get the more likely they are to take notice.

They stole my song off youtube, and put it up for sale [as a ringtone] the next day.
I posted a song on you tube, on Thanksgiving (9/22/07). it was reposted the very next day by the youtube user StepZaraa1d0. The video suddenly had "RingtoneTen.com" imprinted on it (RingtoneTen.com actually leads right to Jamster.com), and the "more info" section next to the video had a huge form-letter advertisement claiming to sell the song as a ringtone. Youtube has since deleted the account advertising the song. Still, I'm not too happy with Jamster. Not only was there no permission to use the song, but they didn't even ask. This is from the official link [omitted]: "Update 11/24. Apparently it only took one day for a company to appreciate my song enough to repost it without crediting me, and to entirely miss the point. I try to express something, and their immediate response is to use it. First, by cutting it down into a RINGTONE, and then to package and sell it like a pack of gum. Thanks for debasing my music, heartless capitalists. And thanks for validating the song."

Tired of being ripped off!
Hi, I am so tired of being ripped off by my sprint cell phone. They say I made these calls that I know I didn't make, but the #'s I use are correct! Now, in Sept. I had a 500.00 bill, crazy, I paid the dam thing I was tired of arguing with them. That bill was suposed to be only 79.99 ok. Then I moved & dropped my plan to 59.99, because I have a land line. Well this bill was 300.00 They are crazy if they think I'm going to pay them! This month I get a bill for 241.00, & I only used the phone 10x's that month. Besides all that I have on both of the plans was free unlimited incoming calls , so I would ask everyone that I was talking to, to call me back so I didn't get charged! I don't know what else to do, but I know what I not going to do! I'm not paying those 2 bills! They are nuts! Rita (Nov.23,2007 P.S. Please e-mail me if you have a sujestion for me or something?

Ringaza Scam
I was scammed by ringaza for $30 on one bill. They sent me a text message saying I had some downloads and to reply help or stop. That text message cost me $9.99 I guess because I looked at it. I replied help not understanding what the downloads were about and just wanting clarification. They responded two more times that they didn't understand my message. That cost me another $9.99 each. On the bill from Cingular under the column Merchant Contact was a phone number and it turned out to be Cingular's number not Ringaza's. I am pissed at Ringaza for using my phone number like a credit card number and I'm pissed at Cingular for allowing it. Hope this helps.

Ringaza Scam
My husband was scammed by the "Free ringtone download" when he was visiting the Horsecity website. Well, he fell for the bait. All they needed was his cell phone number and the scam was on. He said he never even fully completed the whole process and certainly never got a free ringtone. Within minutes he was getting a text message from Ringaza. He immediately responded with a stop quit reply text message. When we got our Verizon bill, we were billed $9.99 for "premium text messaging". This is a huge scam! When we contacted Verizon, they didn't want to help and said we'd have to contact Ringaza. When my husband called them, he was on hold for 2 1/2 hours before being disconnected. The next day, he was on hold for 45 minutes before speaking with someone who said that even though he canceled it, he'd have to pay for that first $9.99 charge. What kind of crap is that? He never downloaded a ringtone and had canceled as soon as he got the text message after being on the computer -- I mean, we're talking a matter of a couple of minutes. How can someone be expected to pay for something they never agreed to and never got any product that they were selling? Do the math -- can you imagine how much they're scamming people out of at $9.99 a pop for the tens of thousands of people that are falling prey to this scam? Ringaza needs to be shut down by the Federal Trade Commission or whoever regulates their sorry business. We also sent an e-mail to Ringaza disputing the charge. They replied and said that my husband put in his PIN number, so we'd have to pay the charge. He never put in a PIN number. We don't even have a PIN number that I know of. They just keep coming up with more excuses to try and justify an illegal charge. I'm also very upset with Verizon that they seemed so unconcerned and unwilling to assist. They should care more that their customers are being scammed!

My daughter sent a txt message to receive a free ringtone from the tv. Next thing she told me there was no credit left so I went to recharge with 30 bucks. They all were from jamster and I got charged at least 6 bucks per each one! I only had $4 of credit remaining! Half my credit gone in one day. I called up my phone company and asked what happened. They said jamster had been the cause of all the charges. Never order stuff from tv or those f**king idiots at Jamster again! How Jamster works...
There are a lot of options on how you can download products from Jamster:
- By sending a text message of the product code seen on a tv commercial or a magazine ad;
- Online registration thru www.jamster.com; and
- By calling Jamster's Hotline number 1-866-856-5267.
Customers are billed on a monthly basis for US customers for the amount of $9.99 or $5.99. For AUS customers you get billed $10 weekly. Service can be cancelled by texting the word "STOPALL" and send it to either 75555 for USA or 194000 AUS. Jamster sends messages to inform customers of their active subscription. They have an option to call our hotline or text the word "STOPALL" if they want the service cancelled. We also have a live chat available thru our website as well. We do not subscribe customers without their knowledge. Most of the customer would claim they "did not" sign up for anything but while talking with them on one part of the conversation they will admit that they tried to get one tone and that was it. So since the charge is either monthly or weekly automatically the customer will be billed since the account is active. That means whether a download was made or not as long as the service is still active the customer gets billed. We do send out sms to customers so at least they are notified of the service but since most of them choose to delete the messages without reading it then it would not be our problem anymore. We did our best to inform customers of their active subscription but they opted to delete the message so it would be their problem already. We also have cases wherein it's their kids who activated the service and had been ordering the products and yet they would deny that. We also have cases wherein it is the adult who did subscribe but would lie and say that they did not but in one part of the conversation they will admit they did it. We do offer free tones and you can get that by sending "GIFT1" to 75555 for USA customers. If you go online and try to register your number it does disclose details of the charge and requirements like SMS and GPRS service that has to be activated. Sometimes it is the customer who does not read all the details and would just blame Jamster for the charges when in the first place we did inform them. We also do not allow minors ordering our products not unless there is a parents consent that is why we require parents to fax us letters of consent allowing their minor kids to order jamster service. We offer refund for customers who would call in and request for one. It does take 20 working days to process and deliver the check I hope customers would be responsible enough to admit if they ordered something or not and not just put the blame on Jamster. Your number will not be registered if not an order was made. If you have kids please be responsible to check what your kids are doing with their phone. You cannot just simply blame people or a company. Just don't point your fingers at us without checking what your kids did. We get a lot of calls from minors pretending to be their parents either to order products or even request for refund since they did something and they do not want their parents to find out about this. We are doing our end of the bargain hope you as parents or guardians could do your part as well. Thank you...

Ringaza Fraud
Same story. My daughter downloaded a "free" ringtone. Then she answered a prompt saying she did not want to subscribe to any ringaza service. However, the ringaza scam site treated it as if she had SUBSCRIBED. We were charged $9.99 Verizon agreed to remove the charge. That was a month ago. Just now, my daughter got another text message from ringaza notifying her that she was automatically "renewing" her membership for another month ($9.99). Of course she had never subscribed in the first place.
Then *** and this is what proves it's a complete scam, we went to the Web site and followed the unsubscribe instructions but IT WOULD NOT LET US UNSUBSCRIBE. Remember we were never subscribed to begin with. And it won't let you unsubscribe the bogus subscription! I'm a correspondent for CBS News and think this would possibly make a good fraud story. Please email me your contact information if this has happened to you: sac@cbsnews.com. Thank you.

Scam by Verizon Wireless
I encountered an intolerable situation today with my wireless carrier, Verizon Wireless. I am a business professional who travels extensively and unfortunately I do not look closely at my bills. I discovered tonight that I have been the victim of a third-party scam that is being encouraged by Verizon Wireless. Tonight I noticed an extra charge on my Verizon Wireless bill of $9.99 for a Premium TXT Message. When I called Verizon Wireless, they said that I had authorized the charges from a third-party company called ThumbPlay, and that Verizon Wireless was authorized to charge this back on my cell phone bill. I told them that I never authorized any charges from Thumbplay, and that I had never heard of the company. I live alone, and no one uses my phone. I have never downloaded any ring tones or games my handheld is a business phone that is used for cell phone service and e-mail only. Verizon Wireless failed to address my complaints: They said that the charges were legitimate and that I had authorized them. I did not. I do not have time to download ring tones, and I don't care what my phone sounds like when it rings (usually I leave it on vibrate). I do not have any teenagers in the house. I live alone. Verizon Wireless said the only way to stop the charges would be to send a text message to Thumbplay asking to "unsubscribe". I refused based on that if I send a text message to a company I do not have a relationship with it would be admitting that I had subscribed in the first place, which I did not. Further, they may be able to collect additional private information about me. Verizon Wireless said they could not stop the charges on my behalf - that I had to contact Thumbplay. I did not authorize any purchases from Thumbplay, and I did not authorize Verizon Wireless to accept erroneous charges on my behalf. I asked Verizon Wireless to block all "third party charges" - they refused and said they could not do that. I asked Verizon Wireless to block my cell phone number from "Premium Txt Messages" they refused and said they could not do that. I asked Verizon Wireless to block my cell phone from all text messaging they said they could block text messaging but that would not prevent continuing monthly charges from Thumbplay. I asked Verizon Wireless to credit my account for all unauthorized charges from Thumbplay they said they could only credit two months, even though they explained that they had been billing me since May. I asked Verizon Wireless to show me a text message from my telephone number to Thumbplay, and they said they did not have the text messages from May when the charges started. I am incredibly concerned about Ringtone Scams, and the ability of the wireless carriers to easily place charges on consumer's telephone bills. I am even more concerned about how HARD it is to reverse these charges, and how much money doesn't get reversed or credited back to the consumer. This is legalized extortion in my opinion, and the wireless carriers are as equally guilty as the third-party provider. It should be illegal to bill these services without a written, signed authorization from the account holder. Since when is Verizon Wireless a credit card company? Sadly, I had to CHANGE my cell phone number which Verizon Wireless said was the only way to stop the charges from continuing. Here is my suggestion to EVERYONE. There is power in numbers. Write to the FCC and explain what is happening. This is an unlawful act, and must be stopped immediately. Kevin Martin is the Chairman of the FCC and his e-mail is KJMWEB@fcc.gov.

Blinko and LaNetro on T-Mobile
My boyfriend has his cell phone payments automatically withdrawn so he doesn't pay much attention to his bill. I noticed last month's bill that there were $16 dollars in "Premium Service" charges on his bill--it's his phone, so I left him alone...but when I saw that he had the same charges this month I asked him if he knew what it was about. Turns out Blinko and LaNetro have been sending him texts forever--he never subscribed, never downloaded a ringtone or game from either company. He just thought they were junk texts and ignored them! Blinko was getting 9.99 out of him every month, and LaNetro 5.99. I'm honestly afraid to find out how long this has been going on. We called T-Mobile and were told that there was nothing they could do to block texts or reverse charges. It appears we've managed to unsubscribe from both... If we make a big stink about this would we be able to get some of the charges reversed? This is a very weird and expensive problem!

Another Big Giant Chump
I was looking for an obscure song on the internet that I didn't know the name of. I finally found it, and thought, "gee, I'd like to have that as a ring tone." I'm a Virgin subscriber, so I Googled "Virgin ringtones" and up came Jamster. Sooooo, thinking I could just log on and check to see if they had the song before downloading it, I plugged in my number and they sent me a pin. Boy am I stupid. I thought I was just accessing the website. In just a couple of seconds I sent them the "stop" text message. I also logged on for a live "chat", where I sat for over 40 minutes and the only answer I got out of it was that they would not reverse the charges. I just paid ten bucks for an account open for 30 seconds. Then the CSR stopped talking altogether. I closed the window and tried to open another chat and got a message on screen that the server as down. "Sorry, try back later." I think I just lost $10 for a couple of seconds of curiosity. I'll try Virgin and see if they can credit my account. Somehow I have my doubts.

Same Problem with Ringaza.com
My daughter's phone through Verizon has also been charged $9.99 by ringaza. When I called them, they stated the same thing: they would not refund. They said she authorized the download. I told them she was a minor and was not authorized to agree to pay for anything. They said their terms & conditions state that minors should get parent's permission!!! What child reads terms & conditions? And what did they do to assure that this was not a child? NOTHING! When talking to my daughter, she swears that she did not order anything and does not have any downloads on her phone. I am not going to let this drop. As soon as I find out which state this company does business in, I am going to write the attorney general of that state. This is definitely a scam!!!

[ September 5, 2007 ]
Nancy,
Remember: it is Verizon that is charging you $9.99, not Ringaza! Verizon knows exactly what's going on, but they continue because they get a cut of each transaction and they have power over you—to hold you to your contract and destroy your credit if you don't pay the fraudulent charges. It is Verizon that is allowing your daughter's cell phone number to be used like a credit card, without any of the safety protocols used for credit cards. And credit card companies will go to bat for their customers against fraudulent businesses.
I would demand that Verizon refund your money (and be sure to have them cancel the subscription so you aren't charged every month).

Jamster Scam in Australia Too!
I have just realized I too have been burnt by this horrid scam. I purchased a phone several months ago through bigpond. I did download one song - just one. that was it, I am 40 yo female and it was just too time consuming and I decided I'd never do that again, then after that I received on average 4 text messages a day all from the same number all offering ringtones and wall paper etc, I just ignored and deleted, but after the second bill that I received and just paid, I had time to sit and read my bill, I was amazed to see that I had been charged for each and every one of those text messages, upon ringing my mobile phone provider who told me it's nothing to do with them, they just pay jamster for services I have initiated, but they gave me a phone number to ring them direct and also we put a bar on my phone so they could never text me again.
I feel bigpond (telstra) should have a duty of care to make sure their customers are protected from these type of companies, but they are wiping their hands of anything to do with it. I rang this jamster who's offices are in berlin germany and spoke to an asian woman, she offered me $30 back but that is it, so I said no, I don't want the $30. I want exactly what they have taken from me unauthorized. She said there's nothing she can do, so I got the details of who to write a letter to. which I have done today and posted it airmail to bloody germany. I have looked on internet and see that there are connections to big businessmen in australia too. this needs to stop. I didn't notice the first time it happened I just paid the bill, but how many times would people just pay it and not realize or not want the hassle of fighting it or just taking that $30 they offer to shut you up. So read your bills and don't ever ever buy a ring tone or anything thru your phone. I will also be going to the NSW Telecommunications Ombudsman as well, but what can one country lady do about this????? ps excuse any spelling errors, just in hurry to send this.

Ring Tone Not Ordered
I received my bill from Verizon and noticed a charge of $9.99 for premium txt messaging. I called Verizon and asked about it and they said it was from ringaza.com. They also told me that they would put a stop on my phone. However, they also told me that I would have to call RINGAZA to have my account credited. Well, I was informed that I subscribed to this service on June 24 (Sunday). No way, Jose. Also, under their terms and conditions, I would not get a refund or credit to my account. Which way do I go? False Charge
A charge showed up on my Verizon bill that I subscribed to "something" and I didn't. I went on line to check on ringtones, which they told me I could not do with the model phone I have. Then I started getting all of these text messages from them about advertisements, which I stopped. Verizon gave me a phone number to call ringaza. Every time I was next to talk with a representative, the phone disconnected. Verizon also told me how to send something by text to cancel the "subscription." I will not pay the bill and they need to be aware of that. Help.
Tina McMillan
[ August 14, 2007 ]
Tina,
Clearly you did not intend to purchase anything since they told you the ringtones wouldn't work with your phone—that's just common sense. The problems you had while trying to cancel with Ringaza just underscores why it is necessary to hold Verizon responsible and demand a full remedy from them. They are the ones who allowed your cell phone number to be used like a credit card, and that without your consent. They are the ones who sent you a bill. They are the ones who can threaten to destroy your credit if you don't pay that bill.
I would keep pressing Verizon to do the right thing (remember they are getting a cut of everything, so they don't want to admit they can do anything and set a precedent). Keep calling and ask to speak to a supervisor all the way up until you get someone who will cancel the subscription and reverse all charges.
At the same time, I also recommend that you file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (bbb.org). I know that Cingular takes such complaints very seriously and Verizon may too.

Why I am a Big Giant Chump
My coworkers and I got into a dumb conversation about ringtones at work. I went onto Jamster (the name is recognizable, so it's not dangerous, right?) to see what was popular these days. I put in my phone number. No harm there, right? They don't know my name, or have any of my credit card info, they're just making sure my carrier is compatible with their services. I am such an ass. Goodbye, ten dollars.

Dadamobile/Verizon Scam
I just received a $9.99 charge on my Verizon bill from Dadamobile for a "premium text message." When I called Verizon Customer Service, they assured me that there was no way for dadamobile to charge me without my consent. In actuality, this is nothing I signed up for via web site, text message, or any other means that I'm aware of. Verizon says their records show an out-going text from my cell phone to their short code 63232. When I look in my cell phone history, which I've never deleted anything from, I show two inbound messages, but no outbound messages. Verizon would not delete the charge, but gave me instructions on how to stop the service. Bottom-line, somehow I'm getting billed for a service I never ordered. I wish Verizon and dadamobile could feel the pain of this! I'll try calling dadamobile tomorrow. 1-888-214-0381

Ringaza Problem?
My daughter subscribed to Ringaza last night, thinking there were no charges involved. So she just replied to the text messages with STOP. Does this mean we will still be charged 9.99 a month? If so, is there any way to cancel that?
Susan
[ July 30, 2007 ]
Susan,
I found this on the Support/FAQ page on Ringaza's Web site:
How do I cancel a subscription?
You may cancel a subscription using your phone. Send the keyword STOP to XXXXX and then follow the instructions for unsubscribing. Alternatively, you can go to our Contact Us page.
The address of their Contact Us page is: http://www.ringaza.com/help/det_contactus.php.
Since there are many reports of people still being charged after attempting to cancel their subscription in this manner (from any company, not Ringaza specifically), I think it is wise to call your cell phone service provider and have them make sure you are never charged again. They have the ability to do this, though they may deny it at first.

A Single Download Billed 12 Times—Yet Download Still Not Received
In August of 2006 I had just purchased a new RAZA mobile phone. One night I was watching TV when an ad came across the screen advising that you could download your favourite song for a mere $4.55, which I proceeded to do. I was sent an SMS not 5 minutes after, but no matter what I tried the instructions provided did not allow me to save the ring tone. I simply deleted it and went on, not giving the $4.55 another thought, that is until I received my phone bill on July 2007. I had been sent the ring tone 12 times, each time being billed $4.55. I had never opened any of the sms's in fact, I deleted each as they arrived - so, now I have no ring tone and a bill for $60. When I tried to call Jamster ...I was lead through the usual automated instructions and when I finally got to the end, where the line was ringing when it was finally answered, there was no one at the other end ....I'm fuming and am determined to get my money back

Illegal Charges
I was once going to download a Ring tone from Jamster a few years ago. It said it was free so I had a look. When I found the song I wanted, I found out that I had to pay about $7 for the song. I decided not to. I could live without the song. However I never entered my mobile details, I didn't sign up and I did not agree to any terms and conditions. This was about two and a half years ago. About 4 weeks ago, I got my phone bill and it was high so I called my phone provide and they told me that I had been billed by Jamster. With my phone company, they do not show the name of the company that bills your mobile account. It just shows up under other charges next to the SMS charges so I have always assumed that this charges where from extra long SMS messages. I contacted Jamster and they had 2 account (one account 2 years old and one 2.5 years old) under my mobile number. Over the last 2.5 year, Jamster has illegally billed my Mobile account for over $700. I told them to cancel both accounts and I wanted a full refunded as I never signed up. They said that I can use the 2 accounts and use the free credit that has been built up over the years. Which means I could download over 800 mobile software/games, about 1000 backgrounds and 500-600 free ring tones. All free of charge. I told them that I did not want this. I don't think they even have that much stuff. So they 'kindly' offered me a $20 refund. Again, I was not happy with this, so their supervisor decided to offer me a $30 refund. After fighting with them for over an hour, I decided to let it rest for the day cause I just was not happy at all. To cut a long story short, here we are 3 weeks later, about 5 phone calls, 15 emails and 20, maybe 30 live chats with their support they have decided to offer me an extra $20 worth of free Jamster credit to use on their site. Every time I talk to their support desk I get different answers. They will not pass this matter onto their legal department, and according to their support department they do not have a Customer Relations manager. To tell you the truth, I am not sure if Jamster operates legally, which is why I have registered a complaint against Jamster to the ACCC (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) so it should be interesting to see what happens from this. Anyway, have your say on this matter, should be interesting to see what other people have to say on this.

Same Problem with Jamster
WHAT A SCAM.... I never download ringtones, but this one was free and looked fun. As stated, they did not ask for a credit card or other info, but when I got my text message back, it said WELCOME to JAMSTER, and basically you are now on the $9.99/month program. Within 2 minutes I got online with their online chat operator and asked if I was now signed up on a program.... it took forever, but she said yes I was. I said CANCEL THIS IMMEDIATELY which again took forever for her to respond... (its instant chat, how long can it take?). She said the charges have already gone through and that she could not reverse the charge... after I threw another snit, she said they would send me a check within 30 BUSINESS DAYS! Unbelievable... what a scam... if they do no more than hold onto your money for the 30 days these guys are making a fortune! They should be sued!

Scam
Well I downloaded a tone from Jamster and it started to cost too much. It went from $5.00, then the next week it went to $10.00 per week. It just kept on going up in its price. I sent a message to Jamster, "stop," and it told me that I couldn't stop it. So I was stuck with the tone and I kept getting charged $10 dollars per week and it will not stop charging me. So they are a real big scam. So whatever you do, do not get songs off Jamster. If I could meet them I would have to tell them that their idea of Jamster is all one big scam and a rip off and they should not be allowed to do this kind of thing to people, not when we have to pay bills and we have to pay for everything else. m-Cube inc. Scam
I received my cell phone bill with two charges from m-Cube inc. for $13.98 on my dad's phone which is part of our family plan. I called Cingular (the new at&t) and they informed me that m-Cube inc. is a "third party" company and that they can charge a customer for simply sending them a text! I informed the customer service rep. that my dad didn't even know how to send or receive text messages. He informed me that if you do receive a text message from an unknown source that you need to send a text back with the message "STOP" to the sender. I must say that the customer service rep from cingular was very helpful and removed the charges. He also helped me in blocking any data or text on my dad's phone so that it won't happen again. I am concerned, however, that companies like cingular shouldn't allow companies like m-Cube inc. to prey on it's customers; especially unwitting customers. In this day and age of technology that we live in you can't tell me that cingular can't block such blatant acts of wireless piracy. I also find it funny that someone like my dad, who is 64 years old, was preyed upon and not someone like myself who is 29 years old and obviously knows better because I caught this.
